1969 4 speed 4x4...What tcase was factory sped?

I just baught a 69 4 speed 4x4 truck over the phone tonight. The owner told me the tcase is shot. What tcase should it have? I am thinking a NP205 but I am mot 100% on that. I used to have a 70 4 speed 4x4 and it had a rockwell unit in it. What do you guys think? Thanks Ryan.

I've seen on this forum in a few places that 69 could have either the rockwell or the np 205. If you could get the guy you bought it from to tell you which side of the 4speed shifter the t-case shifter is on should tell you. If I'm not mistaken if it's on the driverside it's the rockwell, if on the pass side it's the 205.

Thanks for the shifter info handle info! I think you are correct there. My old 70 was on the driver's side, I think.

Some early 205s had the shift handle coming up on the drivers side. Now that I think about it, that may have been so that the same shifter hole could be used when they were using both types of transfer cases.

Well unfortunately this truck has a rockwell tcase. I happen to have a 4 speed 205 so I guess that is my luck. And the shifter is on the LH side.

I'm swaping out the Rockwell in mine for a 205. It's not too hard to do. You'll need the adapter and coupler to go to the 465, drop the t-case x-member aprox 5/8", change to a one piece rear drive shaft, and get a longer front drive shaft.

So the NP205 will work on my rockwell sm465 outputshaft I have now? I would gladly swap the 205 in because I have one.
