Vintage Air conversion

Who has used the Vintage Air set up on these trucks? I have done many Vintage Air conversions on the 55-57 chevys and work great, however I was wondering if the stock factory Air is a better way to go or the Vintage Air set up.....on the 73-87 trucks.

I have never done a conversion, but I don't think it's needed. You can buy factory a/c components for these trucks everywhere. The stock a/c unit with updates will cool you truck just fine.

Vintag Air would be nice if you are wanting a detailed engine compartment with a smooth firewall.

Iv'e done the vintage air conversion.Ihe advantage's to me were cleaning up the look of the engine bay.It allow's you to get rid of the stock black box in the corner and use a smaller polished compressor instead of the stocker.And while i really don't have any proof,i'm sure the compressor use's less horsepower than the stock unit and the whole system is more efficent than technology that's thirty year's old.However the downside would be cost.And the stock unit will cool fine like ken said.But,if it's a "cool"..cool factor your looking for.It can be had for a cost.

Thanks for the info on this, Yes, I want a smooth firewall, that is the only reason for the vintage air set up plus they make the front runner system that will finish off the motor just right. You can see on my web site the front runner system I did to the 57 chevy.

what all would be needed to add a/c to a truck with no a/c

Buy the kit from Vintage Air or I think you have to go some one like Classic Industries in Huntington Beach, Ca. and they can order the Vintage Air kit. This kit is complete with all parts needed then all you have to do is get the system charged up. The instructions on these systems are pretty good for installation.

I just noticed Vintage Air is now including the controller with the Sure Fit kit.

I tell ya it just doesn't pay to be pioneers, does it?

dang........i wonder if we could adapt? you were the pioneer.i was just a wannabe in your shadow.seriously though,i think you,hava79,stepside454 and myself are the only one's i know of.who have done it to 73-87.where did you see the controller?

I started to post about the kits not including the controller, then thought to myself, I better check the Vintage Air site to see if anything had changed and what do ya know!.......

like already said. the factory AC system works fine on these trucks. My entire system was in bad shape, & the factory unit is so awful ugly. I love the sure fit kit, they make it for our trucks in both originally Ac equipt ,as wll as non- ac.
