Kickdown adjustment

What is the proper procedure for adjusting the kickdown cable?
Should there be any slack in it?

Re: Kickdown adjustment

Adjust so it works at WOT. You can pull on the cable and feel it engage. There may be some slack in the cable at idle.
Edit: This is for a TH350 or TH400...

Re: Kickdown adjustment

We need to know what kind of tranny you have before the question can be properly answered.
A TH350 or TH200 (400 doesn't use a cable) would be the way Sinister described (there's a more acurate way of getting the adjustment though)
If it is a 700 R4 or a 200 4R, then you need to read up on TV cable adjustments, and the BTO link that leddzepp posted is possibly the best way of doing it.

Re: Kickdown adjustment

I had a brainfart on the TH400, because I have the Lokar setup which uses a cable operated switch.

Re: Kickdown adjustment

Sorry, it's a 350.

I had a 700r4 in my old camaro and I think I used to move the plastice part forward or back. It was 10 years ago so I cant remember.

Re: Kickdown adjustment

these pics may be out of order... but you pup the plastic piece up on the assembly with a screwdriver as shown, hold the carb at wide open throttle (engine off) and as you hold the linkage open, you press the piece back down.
Done.
