Gas Tank Float Question? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Okay, so I'm tired of replacing floats. I've replace the one in the Bel Air twice The first was an aftermarket one that came with the repro gas tank and sender and it filled up, the second was a replacement float from aftermarket and it filled up, I then spent awhile soldering up the first float and looking for leaks and put it back in, that was 6 months ago, and now it is starting to slowly not get to full on fill ups (now it goes just past half). The suburban float is also full, and I'm not looking forward to dropping the tank and replacing it with yet another brass float. Has anyone found a plastic aftermarket float? Is there a certain solder I should be using? There has to be a good solid solution.

i've dipped floats in gas tank sealer to stop leaks//it slightly changed the gauge reading but not drasticly and once i got used to the new readings never had a further problem//bead blasted b4 i dipped

That's an idea. Does a float in a CJ jeep fit on a blazer gas tank sending unit? I found someplace that sells those in plastic.

I just took the plastic float from a later model vehicle fuel sender unit and put it on my 69. it has been working fine like that for about 20 years now.
