2 piston brake calipers

Are there any 2 piston calipers from other GM vehicles we can use on our trucks when doing a brake disc swap?

i checked their site and only saw 1 piston calipers. Maybe i missed something. I am trying to build a kit using 73-87 parts but with dual piston calipers from another vehicle. I thought for sure there was something out there. I guess we will see as more responses to this thread come in.

Re: 2 piston brake calipers

Actually the only "bolt on" dual pistion calipers I have seen for the GM D52 mount (i.e. the stock single piston ones until the "metric" style came into play) are made by Howe Racing and Stainless Steel Brake Company. Someone on the board tried them out and the only issue they found was where the pins ride in the caliper, they are not machined to use the "o-rings" so they have a little play in them. I haven't seen anyone using the SSBC ones but haven't searched that hard.

Most "big brake" kits require modifying the spindle by cutting the caliper ears off, drilling and tapping a couple holes and using a bolt on bracket that allows GM style PBR dual pistion calipers. This is mainly what Baer brakes does on a number of GM applications.

Good luck on your search and share what info you find.

yeah your right, thats what i've been finding. If i could find out what model year caliper they are using i could probably have a bracket made or if someone had a bracket, that would be great.

There is some info about them in my build thread, and then this thread:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=307288

Basically, I think I'm going to get some delrin bushings made that will press fit into the calipers. I haven't gotten around to figuring out the specs for the machine shop to make them for me.

Thanks for the info man! In your opinion are those calipers worth the hassle? I have seen some used ones for sale on ebay for about 80 bucks.

I haven't driven my truck (ever!) so I can't say. But honestly, probably not.

I really think a lot of improvements can be made by simply upgrading to a good brake pad. In addition to the Howe calipers, I'm also using some Hawk HPS pads, and that's probably where a majority of braking improvement will come from.

Thanks for the info man, thats probably what i will do. I thought someone made a bracket or something to use a later model GM 2 piston caliper, similar to what mcgaughys did on their big brake kit. I may just end up doing that if i get the money.

There was some info about Kore3 offering a big brake kit that uses a corvette caliper. It also used a corvette rotor, a bracket, and a special hub to allow you to use the corvette rotor. Last time I checked it wasn't available yet.

i thought i was going to have that trouble with the big brake kit. but the 13'' rotors come with new loaded calipers as well as spindles all the bearings and even brake hoses and all the bolts you need. mcgaughy's the spindle and everything else just goes on to stock ball joints. http://www.mcgaughys.com/newproducts.html scroll towards bottom.
i havent ordered the kit yet. but when i do come to that point, thats the route im going.

im kinda leaning that way too. Not many choices regarding this unless you want to spend a ton of money on Baer. Mcgaughys seems to be the choice. I haven,t heard from anyone who has installed the kit yet.

I called Godfathers on tuesday and Stan said the kit is $619.00 for the front with free shipping to most locations. Still a great deal! I still haven't heard from anyone who has this kit installed. Anybody??

Re: 2 piston brake calipers

just an update on this. I found out today that performance online has a 2 piston aluminum caliper for 71-87 trucks. You have to trim about 1/4 off your spindle, but no special brackets! The price is $184.00 a pair and 95.00 more for polished. They are not the Howe calipers that they were selling ( i asked) They don't have it on their website yet but they are available NOW There is a picture of the single piston version in the Dec issue of CCT. Finally something affordable!
