Re: what year is this truck??

I believe it's a 79 or later. If I'm not mistaken the headlight/park light bezels went to a 1 piece unit that year. The pics aren't great but it looks like a 1 piece to me.

Re: what year is this truck??

it looks like the headlight surround goes around the park lights so I would guess 79-80?

Re: what year is this truck??

can I convert that front end to a 73-74 front end and if so what all is it going to take...just a grill, headlight buckets, and some turn signals or is it going to take more than that like a core support or something...thanks for the help...

Re: what year is this truck??

It is a 79-80. To convert to a 73/74 front, you'll need the grill, HL bezels, parking light bezels (I think), center grill support and hood latch, both outside grill mounts (they bolt in, the 75 and later supports have dimples where you drill the holes), grill mounting nuts, lower valance (I think), and lower valance trim. It is easier to convert a 75-78 than a 79-80.

I won't swear on the year of truck but, the grill is 1980.

i believe it's the midyear change they did from 79 to 80.79 bezels and 80 grill.then they put in the rectangular headlight's with that grill in 80.providing it's all original stuff.i think most likely it will be listed as a 79 on a title.but,i could be wrong.i was once.

The cheap trucks in 1980 did not get the rectangular lights. The white truck is a 79 and the green an 80. The blue is the truck in question. Next pic shows 1979 V22 Chrome grille option. Last pic shows my factory original 1979 Silverado grille.

Re: what year is this truck??

I'm betting that truck is a 1980. 79 trucks, have more of a rectangular shape grille holes, 80 more square. Actually, Dooley's post above directly points this out. Look at the 79 grill holes on that white truck, and the 80 square holes on the green and blue truck. Notice the white truck grille holes are more rectangular, the 1980 trucks have the more square pattern. But of course, who is to say a previous owner had not swapped a grille? It's almost a 30 year old truck, parts could have been changed over, etc, but if you want to base the year of the truck on the grille, I'm betting 1980.

Re: what year is this truck??

yeah, that does look like an 80.i alway's went by the headlight's. an 80 having rectangular light's.but,i think that was just silverado's.here's the front end indentifier that get's posted once in awhile on here.and another 80.i read somewhere that they did like a rolling mid year change thing from late 79 to 80?

Re: what year is this truck??

Truck is a 1980 model, non-Silverado or no square grille option (RPO V22) It was availible in 1979 also, but that grille is 1980 only.

Re: what year is this truck??

I didn't read everyone's response so excuse me if this has already been stated. You mention you really like the 73-74 front end. I agree and feel it is one of the most classic grill treatments for these trucks.

Just so you know, the 73-74 grill is not reproduced. If you really want the look, you will have to find a used or NOS grill.

I love the look...

Ken,
Was that not a pic of Kevin Edge's 74 pickup from Alabama that was on Ebay?

Re: what year is this truck??

Chris, looking at the background I think you are right. I had one that I was looking at locally a couple of years ago that was very similiar. That don't look like Texas behind that truck does it...
