SM465 4x4 Output shaft 205vsRockwell
I just baught a 69 K10 and it has the sm465/rockwell combo. I would like to switch over to the NP205 because I think the 205 is stronger, I have one, and the rockwell is junk already. I know I will have to change the tcase shifter, the drive shafts, and the tcase adapter. But what about the output shaft of the trans? Is the output shaft the same for the rockwell and 205? I am guessing no. Tell me what you know. Thanks Ryan.

They are the same. I'm doing it right now on my 69 K20. You just need the coupler and adapter for the NP205 to get it connected to your existing SM465.

Thanks Yukon jack. Does anyone know a good place to get a new coupler for this? I have the tcase, adapter but no coupler. I also might need a shifter. I was going to keep the rockwelll in there until I looked at it again. What a puny little turd.

Google np250 parts. they usually run 50-90 bones.

I should have a decent used coupler if you want to save some cash... but live with a little wear. Free + shipping.

The early couplers are a ten spline output, if I remember correctly. A little wear won't hurt much. The best reason to replace the Rockwell is parts availability, they were pretty strong transfer cases.
