How far do you go to save it?

I needed a drivers side bed side to finish my short bed. I obtained one by doing some work for a friend. It had quite a bit more rust in it than I thought, the top side of the bed side is rusted and where it curves down it rusted all the way through, its also rusted around the wheel well and a couple other spots. I was going to give up until I realized I have no money and they are hard to find. So I dig in, I've got a little done tonight that I'm happy with, so I feel I can complete this. I never thought I would go this far, before I would have considered this junk and scrapped it. The pictures might be hard to see because they are upside down. How far gone does it have to be before you scrap it?

I've seen worst! just fix that thing, or in worst case cenario, buy a new
replacement, or shorten a long bed side (easier to find)

Actually the parts to fix this are coming from a long bed side. Funny I've deemed this fixable and the long bed not shortanable (is that a word?)

Tee, (si),( yes) .......Frankestein was made out of lots of parts ( @ least thats what I heard of) so dont be afraid of mix/matching,, as long as it
comes out good.

I've had to fix similar rust because I too am poor and couldn't afford a new bedside. Mine came from the previous owner setting the bed in dirt upside down in his yard. With it upside down, it will hold a lot of water, leaves, and mud.

I would try and find some rust free long bedsides and shorten them , I have thought about it and it ain't that bad of a job , the way I thought about doing it you would only have one seam at the rear half , I would cut the front half till the seam went all the way to the front of the bedside and weld it on the front corner , , sorry dude but that bedside in those pic's is past the point of no return ,
