Lookin for Ideas on my 73
I just got this truck body is streight just needs interior and a paint job power steering and hydrolic brakes
anything would be great i been looking at alot of pis on here and trust me there are some beautiful trucks on here. i'm stuck on a color and interior. I don't know if i should do 2 tone or one color and i don't know if i wanna put only the body line trim on not the full trim. One thing is my wife dose not want me to take the a pillar lights off cause it was her stepdads thing he passed on and I'm taking over it.

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
Looks like an "Old School" custom in progress. If thats the direction you're going,... look at some issues of Rod and Custom magazine. I'm thinking some heavy "metal flake" in the paint, chrome steel wheels and white wall tires,... would be cool!
Otherwise,... personalize it and build it the way you want.

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
I would be looking at a frame-off resto, but i don't know how much is done already, i know that having family involved kinda holds you back in these projects, but sometimes they turn out the best!! i think from what i have seen is orange or silver on these trucks, both with metal flake!! whichever way you go keep us posted!!

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
If it has some sentimental value to your wife, maybe talk it over with her first and see what she thinks. Maybe you two can come up with some something that pays tribute to her step dad but at the same time is something you would like.
Only you can decide what end result will make you happy. I suggest just browsing through this site and find some pictures of these trucks that inspire you.

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
yea he's got the oldskool look going on but theres got to be a way to mix today with that. I'm not to big of a fan with metal flake. The skaggs on witch i should of mentioned is going to come off. the only thing thats staying is the a pillar lights.. I found a couple of ideas on this site for a pant job.. heres 1 or 2 of my thoughts

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
I like the direction that this truck is headed in. If it were me I would paint it in a 2tone of flat black and a heavy metal flake color, but thats just my opinion.

RIGHT ON!!
Looks like a great base for a new project! I dig those side pipes! 1 question, does that have a hood release cable or is it manual?

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
Here's what you need to consider. Do you really want to mix styles? That truck is done in an old school scheme with the spotlights, louvered hood, red steelies with spinner and side pipes.
Anyway, if your keeping the spots, I would just do an updated version of what you already have to work with. Fix all the rust, put it in a smooth coat of primer, and two tone the top with bass boat metalflake as suggested. Add some wicked pinstripes, and cruise it with the tail draggin...kewl kat kustom. By the way, I have heard the called side pipes, lake pipes, and you call them skaggs. Never heard that term, where's it from?

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
With two seconds of thought, here's what I came up with:
Two tone black and metallic orange. Black being the primary color, with a large orange scallop that follows the original trim line to the center of the tailgate where the "tips" of the scallops would meet, separated by a couple inches, just enough for the tailgate handle and a chevy bow-tie or script badge. Silver pinstripe bordering the scallops. Slam it on bags or hydros, raised bed floor with spray in liner. Wheels would be in the 17-20" range. these would be my choice: Interior would be black leather or vinyl with orange welting. Tuck and roll style upholstery. Smooth dash pad and paint it black. Old school pin striping on the dash. Stewart Warner gauges. Billet steering wheel. Black carpet and black suede headliner. Black vinyl sun visors. Also would convert to bench seat. New factory door panels with brushed aluminum inserts and chrome accents. Stereo: Pioneer DEH-P800PRS; Arc Audio FD6000 components int he kick panels; Arc Audio FD4150 amp; JL Audio 12TW5 sub. Custom box behind the seat. Possibly fiberglass, with more old school pin striping and black paint. Maybe an orange scallop. Engine looks good from the pics. Maybe repaint it and add a few chrome bits like an alternator, finned valve covers, finned air cleaner, and a Jack Daniel's Bottle for an overflow tank...

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
i love the hood. it has to be custom right? if you're not interested in the spotlights, i'll sure as hell take them off your hands. good luck and i look forward to seeing your results.

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
Think 60's Merc kustom. Look at Street Rodder for inspiration,
Drop it, rear fender skirts (I know, I know) miles deep black paint with just a little micro flake in it, (or a deep burgandy) black and white tuck-n-roll, Y the side pipes with real exhaust and electric cut-outs and flame throwers in the side pipes. Louvered tailgate. Black vinyl tonneau cover. Custom grille with more vertical elements. Cad vertical LED tail lights., or frenched in corner lamps. Taller skinny tires (to fill up the wheel well in front) with whitewalls. Might be tempted to do something to the wheel centers as the wheel package is too busy for such a flat vehicle. I think I just peed myself... Now I know what to do with my 82.

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
I'm thinking of going with a deep burgandy like a black cherry like color it would look sweet on this truck the body is about streight as a arrow... now I guess i would have to go with a red like interior too now with a up dated 60-40 seat

Look into a color called "Brandywhine (or Brandywine)" It might just be what you're looking for.

Re: Lookin for Ideas on my 73
Street Rodder January 2009 (on newsstands now). Page 64. 53 Chevy, deep brandy paint (personally I'd go one step darker to a burgundy), has side pipes spots and a custom grille, wide whites w/cas, etc. Would be a neat and very different truck.
