Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in the tailgates and rear bumpers on a 89 and a 98 Silverado.

should be the same on the tailgate bumper looks the same don't know about the brackets.

Bumpers should be identical.

Tailgates will have different trim.

Thanks guys, I bought a 98 as a daily driver and the rear bumper is rusting out. I found a bumper off a 89 but it appears to be doing the same thing.

its only the front bumper brackets that changed.

Find an aftermarket vendor and check them out. I bought a new bumper for my '96 stepside for less than $200. Dealership much more expensive. It's got all the brackets and wiring for the license plate lights, etc. If the rest of the truck is good enough to support a new bumper, you'll be happy with the look.
