Question automatic tranny- Shift linkage / Dash Needle

hey ,, does n e one know how the Needle in the dash is connected to the shifter on the column,, when i shift fr P to D or R ,, the Needle in the dash doesnt move,,, just stays on P ???

It is attached to the steering column lower housing “shroud” aka (gearshift bowl) with a cable.

The cables break.

Not that far down but connects to the big round outside shell around the lower column that turns when the shifter is moved, just up the column from where the high beam switch is.

The shift indicator cable connects to the driver’s side of the column and the high beam switch is on the passenger side.

Not bad.
Just make sure the cable did not cut a deep grove in the plastic by the indicator which can cause the cable to get caught in the grove and break.

ok ,,,,,,, i took the gauge cluster out and there is no cable there at all ,, soo i'll have to pick one up,,,,,\



n e one on here have a pic of what it all looks like ??,,, been searching the Net and cant find n e thing on that cable ,,,,,,,

It is not a 1988-1998 truck photo but the second photo down at this site shows how the cable attaches to the column housing/shroud.
