Is this a common place for cabs to go?

This is the only place on the roof or the cab that has rust. Do they rust in this area or is my cab "no good" ??
Thanks Pat

Pat what happened is your drip seal in the drip edge (roof to cab seal ) is no longer sealing the water out of t he cab. the seal must be removed the rust repaired resealed with drip check or a seal of your choice and the repainted. here is a link with picks. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=276071

My 70 has the same rust. Actually mine is much worse because I lived on an Island along the Texas coast for about 5 years. I am currently fixing it. Not really hard to do if you have basic fabricating and welding skills. Just take your time.

Re: Is this a common place for cabs to go?

I wont lie to you. If it is rusted there it could have weak spots in other area's and just haven't gone all the way thru. I cut alot of spots of my rooftop out which allowed me to see what was lurking between the layers. Fortunately it wasn't too bad. It also allowed me to spray rust converter in the entire space between the roof and the cab cieling. I would take a fairly sharp screw driver and moderately tap all along the top of the cabs roof, the cap cieling, and above the windshield. If everything is strong enough that the screwdriver doesn't go thru than you are fine. If the screw driver goes thru than that is a weak spot and the area needs to be cut out and patched.

If everyone who had a rusted cab did that then we wouldn't have anymore left.

I wonder the same thing. Where do all of these flawless cabs keep coming from, where a cab with even the slightest rust needs to be junked?

The guy is asking for repair advice. Not a silly opinion. If that is the only rust on the cab then it would be considered darn near mint to someone trying to restore one of our trucks. I say patch it and keep the build going.

I thought a cab was good as long as when you slammed the door stuff didn't fall off.
