I picked up a 72 C20 over the summer and have just now gotten to messing with it. It didnt run when I got it, and now I got it there. I thought the external shift linkage had come loose, but I soon found that it was internal. I removed the pan to find that the detent spring and roller assembly were completely missing, along with the bolt that holds it in. Does anyone know if you can buy this part somewhere? All the trans shops here in alaska give me the standard answer of 'that never goes bad' or 'we dont deal with anything over 10 years old'

The trans is a th400. Any ideas?

That is probably a part that needs to come from a junked TH 400. Is there any junkyards up your way?

Also, what are the chances there is something else wrong with the transmission as it is it sounds like someone left the parts out.

Thanks for the suggestion Jim, I know that there may be something else wrong with the trans, I still need to try and see if it will work. I know it does go forward- and starts in any gear....

I have tried several junk yards, all telling me that they would sell me the core trans for 150....i've been watching cl with no luck....

Anyone know if one from a different trans will work? (TH350?)

If it was me I think I'd walk into a transmission repair shop and ask if they have these sitting around. If possible,bypass the sales person and talk to the builder. He may just give you the parts. They go through lots of cores and have tons of parts stacked all over usually.
