Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!
Here is my situation I am in the process of making some attachment brackets for bucket seats that go on the under side of the cab floor.

The ones in the pic below were made by this guy while I waited. The final ones should be near exact. I took the original ones off a bucket seat cab without doing much damage to the cab that was a complete truck to be sold.

Now for my problem. I need one more bracket that I could not get off of this truck without really messing up the cab. It is the long brace that stretches from the bolt hole on the front inside of the drivers side bucket seat to the front inside bolt hole of the passenger side. This is probably worded funny but I hope you get the idea.

Is there anybody out there who has a trashed factory bucket seat cab that could cut out this brace for me. I know some one had a floor section awhile back, but I missed it. You would not have to remove the brace from the floor itself, I can do that. Just cut out the entire floor section brace and all. I think it is about 18 inches.

I will be making several sets of these Just incase there are other fanatics like me out there.
Sorry for the long post…..Jason

You should be able to use a trashed K/5 floor. That would be great to make these up.I had the same idea, just needed the donors to model after.I think you`re on to something and please let me know when these are available.I need a set for my one project.

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Not sure if I'm thinking of the same part as mentioned above, but if your talking the brace for the forward seat mounts it may be already made by Tri-pro since they make the entire cab floor and that bracket is part of the floor

That’s a good ? My first thought was yes, but then I remembered that a blazer has a different seat bracket on the passenger side. I would think that the brace would be the same though because it has to follow the same contour of the floor. Maybe just the holes in the brace would be different.

Jaros……. I don’t think this piece is made is made. On a bucket seat cab there are 8 mounting location for the seats and on a bench seat cab there are only 4. On buckets only 2 of the 8 (the outside front) use the same mounting location as the bench seat. The other locations are different and use specific braces welded onto the floor.

I'll have to get under there and look. I thought they just added the two inboard brackets for the buckets to the existing cross brace

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Jason
I'm pretty positive the K5 is the same for that front brace. I had planned on removing it from my rusty Blazer shell and those little braces too for my bucket seat 72 project cab. I guess I would also be interested in buying these little ones too in case mine are too rusty or difficult to remove. Maybe we need to get an original front brace for a pattern to have that made also??? A complete factory look bucket seat install kit would be just the ticket for these trucks. That is always the first thing I look up under the floor when I look at the bucket seats especially if the glove box label doesn't list them as factory. Good luck, Mark

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Mark,

If the one on your blazer is rusty, that migh be a good one to take off, Rust is ok, as longas it is not too rusty and can be removed intact and not all bent up. The guy who made those small ones said he can make anything, so all I need is that long front brace. If you can get if off intact I will give you a complete set free when I get them made......Jason

I just reread your post and I realized I must have not made my self clear in the 1st post. That is my intention, to make all of them so as to make available the entire set of five for whoever needs them.

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Yeah I thought you were looking for one factory one for your truck. I will be getting my Blazer apart in the next month or two as I need the drivetrain for my 67 project frame. If someone comes up with one here that's fine otherwise I will send you mine when I get some time to roll that body off. Between work and some other investment projects and this cold weather I have had little time to work on my cars.

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

You might also want to try and document the location of those small brackets especially pictures of factory untouched as they will be a perfect installation aid for the set of brackets. Not too many of those trucks left the factory and it was not till several years ago I even knew what to look for on factory bucket seats.

This seems to be mostly a discussion about the brackets above the floor, but don't forget the ones under the floor that keep the bolts from pulling through in a wreck...

I don't want to be a killjoy, but spread the load.

This thread/discussion is pertaining only to the brackets that you mention, the one's under the floor pan.

To help everyone understand/note the differences on the 69-72 bucket/non-bucket floor pans, here are some pictures of an actual bucket seat cab floor pan complete outer rocker to rocker with all the factory supports still in place. I have highlighted the extra bracing in blue, the truck and blazer floor pans used the same supports on the drivers side but were different on the pass. side due to the R.H. seat mounting/bracketry differences between the two. Besides on the very ends, the main fwd. bucket seat floor pan cross support looks to be the same on both trucks and blazers. Note: if trying to use/adapt the blazer piece on a truck floor pan, you may have to do some modification on both ends of floor support as the blazer/jimmy piece connects to the inner rocker boxes which are not found on the trucks. With a little fabrication I am sure that the blazer piece could be used on a pickup floor pan or vice-versa.

Jason, in your first post you had mentioned thinking this main support brace was only 18" or so in length, but if you take a look at each end of the brace you will notice it is welded at both of the main cab floor supports which are about 46" across. After taking all of the time to do this the right way, you would want to make sure that you get a full width support so it connects at both floor pan supports for that factory look. Good luck on the hunt, Mel

Here are a couple more pictures from the top side view, I have marked all 12 of the factory bucket seat (truck) 5/16" mounting bolt holes with a blue X. Take a look and note how the factory filled the seven original unused bench seat mounting bolt holes with 5/16" phillips/truss headed machine screws.

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Here's some more pics for you, off of a '72 Jimmy. It looks to me that if you drill the cross brace and weld in the square nuts, it would look original

My photobucket just went down I'll post up more, OK back on line.

Why GM put 3 square nuts there, I don't know, as only 2 are required

Wes, in your first set of pics, third and fourth pic, does that just look like a doubler plate on top of the crossbrace? Mine looks very similiar, but w/o that top pc.

18"-46", same difference . Thanks for all the pics everybody and for clearing up the lenght of the front brace. I guess I was just guesstamating bucause I was thinking it was just a little longer that the console is wide. I should of looked under the truck better, but the guy bought it before I got all the info I really needed.

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Jason, I have this brace you are in need of that is already cut out. Randy (Teeitup) sold it to me a few years back, and we haven't tackled this other cab yet. If I send it to you, you will send back a complete set including this bracket for a bucket seat floor? I am currently preparing my final exhibition in college for graduation next saturday. After that, I can get home and send it to you. I am away from the house. I would be down to send it to you for all the correct brackets though, and to help out the good cause. Let me know. Trevor

Re: Need some help from bucket seat gurus!!!!

Trevor, That would be awesome. This is out of a truck too and not a blazer correct? That way I wont have to worry about figuring out any modifications without having a truck to go by. I will send you a complete set of the five braces + whatever else is included in the kit.

The copies in the pic above were done by hand, but the final ones including the one you supply will be done by a computer plasma bla bla bla thing.

I will PM you my mailing address. I will pay for the shipping too.

It should not take long to get these done because I am wanting to get them done before I drop the engine and trans back in ……..Thanks Jason
