Are 1970 crossmembers the same as 1972 crossmembers?

Hello, I have a 70 chevy s/w that I am going to buy a 72 parts truck for to do the disc brake conversion, and steel the cab from. Is there a differance in anything other then the spindles and brakes? For example; crossmember, a-arms, etc?

THANKS, James

Yes.

The crossmembers are different. On the drum brake trucks, the tabs for the brake hoses are on the back side of the crossmember. On the 71 and 72 trucks, they moved the tabs to the front of the crossmember.

The control arms are the same, but the ball joints in the control arms are different between drum and disc trucks. You can install whatever ball joints into whatever control arms, just make sure the use the appropriate year ball joints for your spindles.
