Fantastic. Mig weld or tig? Do you have a special technique to grind the weld to get the nice blend? Do you always cut the cab to follow the lines of the patch panel or vice versa?
I see you do the cab corners before the rockers, are you happy with the patch panels you've been getting, if so from who or who manufactured them?
As you can tell I'm almost ready to tackle my cab as soon as I'm finished my mig course.
Sorry about all the questions but your the guy to ask!

Spoof, the pics don't tell the whole story. This cab was very solid except the floor area (the roof, windshield, and drip rail areas were good) I had to replace some of the floor on both sides near the rockers, all four cab supports, both side right and left door jams, inner kick panels,and outer rockers before the cab corners. The floor and cab supports were done off the frame. The cab was hanging with the doors off from the engine hoist. Then the cab was set back on the frame and bolted into place, doors hung, then the outer rockers and cab corners fit and welded.
I trimmed the cab corners to fit the way I wanted them. This is actually the fun part for me.
After the rockers and cab corners are on I will remove the doors and take the cab back off to seal, paint etc. Then back on the frame for the final time...
Oh yeah, mig .024 wire, co2/argon mix.....

Thanks for the post and the pics! The welding looks great, but I'm going to ask a question related to one of my recent posts: Would panel adhesive work well for this application? I've heard that it keeps water out and with some screws/rivits for support, its as good as a weld.

Hey that looks just like what I have been doing. I'm on the drivers side though. Have been using .035 flux core wire. I to am interested in the maker of your parts. Using aftermarket, really don't fit well. Cab corner I got, lined up well on body lines but lap over at door flush at top and hang over about 1/2" at bottom. Believe I'll cut and fill the seam at rocker. Was gonna do it anyways. By the way, nice work.

bluec10, I went back and rear your post about panel adhesive (I'll call it glue)
Anything is possible and there are some very strong bonding agents, but I don't think they have much of a place in metal finishing.
I think it is best to weld and be able to form and sculpt the metal and make it permanent.
As far as replacement panels go other than outer rockers, everything else I have only found in aftermarket.
They are thick enough but don't fit good at all. I just get out the hammer and dollies and reform them.
