Grandpa's 66
Hey guys my name is Eric and I live in Boise, ID. I have been lurking for a few months but decided I should post up my upcoming project. I'm into Toyota Landcruisers, hot rods, customs, rock crawlers and just about anything that is related to cars and trucks. My first truck was a 65 C10 that I bought before I even had a drivers license and then I sold it a few months later for a profit. I regret selling that truck so soon but now 10 years later I have a nicer truck to work with. The 65 had a fair amount of rust.
I inherited this truck from my grandpa. It was purchased by my great grandpa in the early 70's. He bought it with the camper on it. Before he passed away he gave it to my grandpa about 6 or 7 years ago. The only thing he did to it was move it down to his place and there it has sat. A few months ago my grandpa asked if I still wanted it because he knew that I have always liked the truck so of course I said yes. My short term goal for the truck is to get the camper off of it and get it back on the road since it has been sitting for many years. My long term goal is to put a small block crate motor in it with an automatic tranny. I also want to put an Airride suspension on it with some nice 20" wheels and then clean up the body and paint it (I'm still undecided on the color). For the interior I want to put a newer Silverado seat in it. My great grandpa added two extra fuel tanks so those need to go and the fuel doors that are on each side of the bed need to be removed. Other than that the body is in pretty good shape with virtually no rust. I still need to go get the truck from my grandpa's in Fruitland which is only about 45 miles from Boise. I plan on getting started this winter and I'm sure it will be an ongoing project for a while since this is not my only project. I will add pics as I make progress over the next few months. |

Welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS. You have a very nice, unmolested survivor. It sounds like you have a solid vision of what you want to do with it. Good luck with the build and don't forget to post pictures often...we all like pictures! PS-the saddle tanks, fuel tank changeover valve and the fill doors are a dealer option and will fetch some cash, so I wouldn't scrape them. They were very popular on the Chevy C20 Custom Camper trucks of the sixties. |

You've got a very, very nice truck there. I actually love it just how it sets now. You don't see to many of them in such good original shape, especially ones that have a family history like yours does. |

Welcome to the board from southern Indiana. I inherited my grandpas truck from my dad. I'm fifty now, but remember riding in both the front and back when I was a kid. My grandpa hauled everything from steers to hogs to gravel in his, so it was not in quite the shape yours is. Keep us all posted with pics, so you don't get one of these.....  This is a great group of guys with a wealth of knowledge to share, but they do love their pics! Well after six years I guess it's time to update my thread even though not much has happened. I brought the truck home like planned and got rid of the camper and then moved the truck into the shop. Other hobbies/vehicles, kids/wife, work and etc. pushed the truck to the back burner. Last winter I finally put some mystery marvel oil in the cylinders, put a new fuel pump and battery in it and got it to run and also had the front seat reupholstered. It ran ok for sitting so long but still needed lots work to get back on the road and once again it got back burnered until now. Today I loaded the truck back on the trailer and will be taking it to a shop tomorrow morning. So hopefully with some professional help she will be back on the road soon. First thing they will do is get it running, driving and stopping properly and then lower it (4/6 or 5/7 static drop) and new front brakes. After I get it back I will have the wheels powdercoated and get some new tires and hubcaps on it. I would also like to add AC this year so I can drive it in the summer.

Man, I'd get a buffer and some compound and polish that baby up and drive it the way it is...paint wise anyway,lowering a bit never hurts
How did the bed wood look after taking out the camper?? Wish I had my Grandpas 63 Chevy, I have a few pictures of it lettered up for our families Deep Rock station from the 60's that was the inspiration for buying my 62...but it was sold some time in the late 60's, you're very lucky to have something like this passed down |
