tranny swap
has anyone done a manual to auto tranny swap in an 82-93 s-10?

Why? Thats what mine is, and I love it. Gets me good gas mileage and still pretty peppy. Of course I know it's not the 4.3 but you can't find them in my area for a decent price.
Blazer72, as for the tranny swap, I would say it wouldn't be that hard. especially if you have a donor for all the little brackets you may or not need. The only thing that would give me a problem is that hole your gunna have in your carpet. but if you use an aftermarket shifter. That should cover up that problem.

I was told the wiring harness would have to be changed, for torque converter lockout something or other. I usually don't work on the computerized stuff.

Don't let a wiring harness scare you from doing it. I used to be skeptical about swapping out harness until I did a few. 10 out 10 times for me, they have been plug and play. Biggest thing is be patient! Take your time removing the harness. You probably would only have to swap the harness going to the trans itself.
