Re: 72 Rear Drum Rebuild

try rockauto.com. I did this recently on a Nova and this is what I bought; shoes, wheel cylinders, "drum brake hardware kit", "drum brake self-adjuster repair kit" and that was new everything. Turn your drums and you're set.

I've had good luck with them, fast shipping and good prices.

It's fun to gut and rebuild drum brakes. An inexpensive project that makes you feel good about the truck.

Re: 72 Rear Drum Rebuild

rockauto, the others have to order the parts anyway, so get it cheaper, they have good service also. The C30 rear adjuster kit on one side is back ordered 2 months, so unless its different, that part may be hard to find. Take a picture of the shoes before you take them off in case you can't figure out how they go back together.

Re: 72 Rear Drum Rebuild

Thanks guys. Does anyone make a "full" kit? So I dont have to figure out what parts to buy. I want to rebuild my rear drums and learn about them, but I also want to make sure I have EVERYTHING that I need for it. I want to basically replace everything that is with my rear drums.

Re: 72 Rear Drum Rebuild

I just did the rear drums on my 70 truck and I bought what I thought was everything new from my local parts store.....Turns out I did indeed need to re-use a few my old parts...

I bought:
New Shoes
New Hardware Kit
New Self Adjusters

I had to use my old:
Park Brake Lever
Strut & Strut Spring - Long flat piece that seperates the shoes
Top steel piece that holds the shoes back, behind the main springs (shown in orange)

I think Currie Enterprises sells a complete kit....but It's around 4 bills...

Re: 72 Rear Drum Rebuild

I just rebuilt mine about a month ago and got all the parts at AutoZone (they were in stock). Around here there are about 6-8 Autozone stores and they will transfer parts between the stores by the next day for free. I just rebuilt the cylinders though.
