70 C10 Conversion
Ive got a 1970 C10 lwb with a 292 and TH350. Truck runs and drives great but I bought it for the body. Ive always wanted a 67-72 4x4 so im trying to find out what would be the most practical means of achieving this. I can swap the TDHD 6 for a small block and add 4x4 components, or find a mechanically sound 73-87 K20 and put my body on it. I would prefer having 3/4 ton gear. I know that is a common conversion, but dont know how difficult it is. Trying to get this show on the road this winter. Any response is appreciated!
thanks, Kent Last edited by kman86; 12-13-2008 at 01:59 AM. |

Re: 70 C10 Conversion
I'd find a 73-87 K20 and swap it on over. Good luck!

Re: 70 C10 Conversion
the converting is pretty easy once you get the parts for it, the hardest part was mounting the trans and tcase to the motor because we only had a floor jack.
And if you choose to convert you could build a 3 or 4 link front end which is way better for flex and driving down the road i belive. With swapping bodies you have to change the body mounts a little and i heard that the back of the frame is a little different.

Re: 70 C10 Conversion
Best of luck on your conversion! This site is great....read the threads on related builds, it will save you a lot of headaches. Hopefully I'll soon post pics of my 1968 C20 on 1977 K2500 rolling frame.

Re: 70 C10 Conversion
I went the other way and converted my 2wd frame to 4wd.
