At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
We'll all seen the magazine pic, but many have suggested or questioned if it was actually a drawing. This is the first real pic I've ever seen of it.

Cool...a lot of Camaro styling in it...Hideaway's.....SS louvers on Hood....way cool!
I'm not familiar with the story on this....was it a concept car? Seeing that Camaro reminded me of this pic.....A Camaro that almost happened....Glad it did'nt Camaro Station Wagon

Hey! If people donate parts I'll build one. I've already got a cab and chassis and running gear!

Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
that truck looks awesome!!!!!
It would be cool if some aftermarket will make that front grille and headlite doors, Iwould definetly be all over it.

If ya look in the bigger pic of the truck there is a Camaro behind through the rear window.

Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
That is fantastic. I love hidden headlights. Wish I had some Camero HHL grills laying around to experiment with...
Also luv the hood grills...Anyone ever do a Shaker hood setup on a 67-72? That would be unique. |

Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
The Chevrolet Golden Cameo pickup featured SS grille with
hideaway headlights, deep-pile interior, super luxurious black vinyl buckets, and a padded simulated leather top. I'm not too sure about the last option that's listed

Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
I guess instead of existed I should have said a confirmed real photo of it. Most of the time when the magazine pic has come up over the years, people has questioned if that photo was real, or if it was concept drawing. This is the first up close real pic I've ever seen of it. I would love to see a rear shot of it.

Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
Those of us who are in the "less than 10%" age group will remember that when the truck body style changed for '67, the real emphasis was on the new "Coke Bottle" shaped Camaro, and later the Firebird. Pony Cars were THE hot ticket. These trucks were just....trucks. Yeah, the car show version with the SS styling was, and still is, neat.
But at the time of introduction, you can bet that the bulk of the car mags, including the other mags like Popular Mechanics, Mechanics Illustrated and Popular Science, were all going after readership with their articles on the new GM pony car...the Camaro. Auto shows have always been known for their one-off vehicles and the SS truck was just another one of those vehicles. It is amazing that the aftermarket has never seen fit to generate anything related to re-creating an SS version of the truck. It's a lot easier to do with the '69-72 grille, but the sloping hood of the '67-8 is better suited to the styling. We just were not that stoked by the new body style on these trucks, having become jaded by the squared stying that was the industry prior to this change.

Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
interesting, the pics show differences in the outside driver mirrors and the turn signal lamps are in the bumper, could there have been more than one of these trucks, or maybe they changed some things betwen photo shoots.
