Ever seen the inside of one of these??
I started cleaning up the factory jack that came with my restoration truck and had plans to blast & paint. Taped up all the openings so sand would not get inside, but it did anyway. So, I drilled out the rivets on the bottom and took it apart, cleaned everything up, lubed it and put it back together. Here's a couple pics.

Re: Ever seen the inside of one of these??
I knew it!! Screw mechanism inside is what makes it work!
Nice pics and good info. Tell us about the fasteners you used to reattach the base to the shell. Without having one to look at, it looks original. Gonna paint, right?

Re: Ever seen the inside of one of these??
ChevLoRay, I had our machinist cut the heads of 4 "special" flat head
3/8 -16 bolts down to 5/8" diameter head, to match the original rivet head. I tapped out the bottom plate to 3/8 -16 holes. I installed the bolts with JB Weld on the threads, and tightened each bolt using stud pliers (or you could use a small pipe wrench) on the threaded end that is exposed. I cut off the exposed thread and dressed up the end of the bolt. Here's the finished product and it operates very smoothly! Sounds like a lot of work, but I have about 2 hours in it.

It looks nice. Details is what catches the eye when it comes down to the nitty gritty. Nice work.
