Question odd vin info

Our families truck is a 1968 chevy short wide bought new by my father-in-laws dad. From what i understand it has always been a s/w. But my numbers show a step side. A coworker told me that dealerships would swap out parts on trucks to fit specific orders. Could this be true? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/i...s/flagwave.gif

..to the board. I'm not sure about dealerships swapping beds. Are you sure it has never been wrecked and the bed replaced at that time?

Re: odd vin info

I suspect you are going by the VIN, and looking at a bad VIN decoder... possibly LMC's decoder.
You can't tell the bed type by the VIN on a chevy.
Look at this link, a very good 99% acurate vin decoder... and scroll down past that, and there is a model number decoder... which will tell you if it wasoriginally a stepside. (model number is listed on the SPID, or option sheet in the glove box doox)
