ECE Trailing arms

I was wondering if anyone had used these. Mine are pretty rusty. One of the U bolts actually pulled out several years ago. I plan on driving my truck quite a bit. Even if I found a good used set i am afraid they will be in the same shape after a while. The ECE ones would last forever.

Re: ECE Trailing arms

I have always had good luck with anything ECE produces as far as fit and quality. I have never used their trailing arms but I would bet that they are top notch based on Early Classic's reputation.

Re: ECE Trailing arms

There is a story on these ECE arms installed on a mid 60's truck in the Jan issue of Custom Classic Trucks if you want a good look at them. They look well built, much stronger than stock ones.

Ram-Man, the arms you made are 2x3 tubing right?

Re: ECE Trailing arms

2" x 3" tubing and 3/16 plates on the top and bottom. If I remember right it was 1 1/4" pipe in the front for the bushing to be pressed into.

Re: ECE Trailing arms

Boog- I got home from work today and my Jan. issue of CCT was in the mailbox. That article shed a lot of light on the subject. Perfect timing

Ram-Man- I thought about building them but had talked myself out of it. Seeing your pics has me wanting to give it a shot. They look great. I was concerned about gusseting the bent part but your idea looks great. It strengthens the bend and beefs up the spring and rearend mount area.

Thanks to all for the input.

Those are sweet I am gonna have to try and make me a set... I have always thought of making some tubular similar to ART. Also with a lower bag mount

Ram how did you bend them? Did you cut and add another piece or is it pie cut and more metal added in?

I always liked these. Any way you could confirm the bushing 'bung' dimension?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: ECE Trailing arms

I agree, those trailing arms you made are outstanding. I was going to build a set for mine and will definately do so after seeing yours. Thanks for the info.

It was 1 1/2" sch 40 pipe. The poly bushings were a hair to big to fit in so I put them in the drill press and shaved a hair off with sandpaper.

Re: ECE Trailing arms

How about using the Trailing Arm Reinforcement Kit from ECE? Would that be a viable solution? Has anyone else used them?

Yes, if the arms aren't rusted the reinforcement 'kits' work well. Personally, I just stitch weld the arms on top & bottom about every 12" & weld the front/rear of the arms 100%. If you like the idea of the plates, you could also pick up some steel @ your local Lowes or steel-yard.
