what parts would i need for a 5 lug swap

right now im 6 lug front and rear the truck is a 69 gmc lwb with a coil spring rearend, i bought the ece 6 lug dropspindle disc brake kit for the front so now what im wondering is would the 5 lug rotors be a direct swap for the front or do i have to do something else?? and as far as the rear could i just get 5 lug axles out of the same year rearend or what do you guys suggest? im mostly doing this for wheel choice.

Re: what parts would i need for a 5 lug swap

You'll likely need the correct rotors for the spindles 'year model': pre-73 (71-72) or post-73. You can prob call the manufacturer of the spindles to determine what year rotors to purchase.

The rear is different. Longer 5-lug axles will physically fit into the shorter 69 rear housing but you'll have to re-configure the brake drums/backing plates. The better option is to replace those 38yr old axles w/some new ones w/the correct 5x5 pattern. ECE & Moser are 2 of the first choices I would look into. New axles that are 30% stronger than stock & have zero wear @ the bearing location is the better option IMO. Then all you do is add 71-72 drums & call it a day.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: what parts would i need for a 5 lug swap

I've done this on an ECE kit. Just remove the 6 lug rotors and replace them with 71 and newer rotors.

They reuse the same bearings, seals and brakes.

No mods at all.

Yep, parts store or your favorite pre-owned auto parts yard.

Call Moser, tell 'em what year the rear end is & they do the rest. Add some 71-72 drums & you're done.

72 axles are longer than the earlier housing which requires specific offset backing plates & the right drums. I believe people use the HD 2.75" drum parts but I've never confirmed it. I've also heard of spacing the backing plate.

When I did mine I considered the used parts route until I opened up the rear w/the replacement axles & noticed the bearing wear that existed. I reconsidered & went w/Mosers stuff.
