opinions
ok, so my old girl has been siting for about a year and a half without being started. gas I am sure is well gone I am sure. and I will be moving in January to a new house. I have had the offer from a really nice guy (company ups driver in fact) to help me put a new*well used* motor in my girl for price of a bottle of jack *told him money was tight* . apparently he has a shop and does custom work on stangs. but I am sting here and thinking. I don't know what is wrong with the "new" motor. but I do know mostly what is wrong with this one. and what is known is that it burns oil like crazy. and apparently it has a barring knock when you start it up. and the radiator is old and needs to go soon. and ever since I took off the belt that drove the busted ac. the stearing seems to be under powered. so do I swap some re-built heads on her and driver her till I get a proper v8 in there? or do I go with a used and un-known motor in there and run it till I get a good motor? it wont be a dd and mostly runs to hardware store or dump runs and maybe some camping trips lol. I miss it! lol
oh btw. I did have a compresstion test done to the truck when it was my dd and found out that it had a really good compression and that the oil is coming from the heads via the guides.

Re: opinions
if it has a bearing knock on startup, its time for an overhaul. Putting new heads on a wore out motor isn't going to last long at all. Either rebuild the motor you have or get a good running used one.. Your not committed to using his motor... Find one you can hear run.

Re: opinions
Another vote for overhaul. I wouldn't spend the time dropping in someone else's "well used" motor.
