Angry Opening door?? any ideas

Wow I feel like a bum asking this but does anybody have an Idea how to open my passenger side door on my 77 K10? The button on the outside will not push in all the way. Same from the inside. I have tried pushing on the door and attempting to push the button and I have also tried pulling and pushing the button. I also have tried the same from the inside of the truck. It is not locked and the lock moved fin up and down. It feels like the button is not going in al the way. WE tried used a broom handle to put extra force on the button but no dice. Because it is closed I can't get the door panal off to get to the guts. It is 15 out right now and Any tricks or tips would be very helpful. It has never done this before. There is a hole for a speaker in the door panal but I cannot see in side the panal at what i am doing and I am not sure if my arm can reach that far.

Thanks for any tips or tricks.

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

sounds to me like if the water trick dont work the door isnt frozen and youre gonna have to get into the door panel and try pulling ont he metal rods to see if the rods are the problem or the lock itself broke

Roll the window all the way down and shoot some of your favorite releasing agent(WD-40,etc) at the latch . Let it sit a while then try it again . To get a little force on it , try using both inside and outside handles at the same time .

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

It is possible to get the door panel off from the inside with the door closed. I have done it. Once you pop that off just start reaching around in there and you'll find the lever for opening the door.

Have you tried rolling the window all the way down and running a heavy welding rod down (with a hook on it)and back to the latch rod and pulling it?

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

Have you tried a hair dryer? I'd warm the area around the rear of the door by the lock mechanism. After I got it good and warm keep moving the key is to warm it as much as you can I'd use the WD-40. If you can move the weatherstrip out of the way I'd let the heat work it's way down to the lock.

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

Got it open. Reached my hand in and gave a tug on the inside rod. It must have binded up some how. Works fine now.

thanks for all the help.

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

Yo! 84 400! It's that maniac Todd, again!
I suddenly have sorta the same problem with my daily driver '76 Camaro driver door,...I can open it from the outside, but can't get out, once I'm in! My door lock striker was deeply worn, so I replaced the strikers in both doors,...didn't change a thing!
The definitive fix is to pull the door panel in both our cases. I'll be pulling my door panel in the next couple of days (stepwise, due to the cold) and repairing the 32 year old worn parts. What a PITA! But I also have a new OEM window regulator that I need to install in that door, in addition,...so I'll get both projects done at the same time.
Unfortunately, I'm having to drive the friggin' 4x4 Bronco POS in the meantime!
FRANKENTRUCK is on the road, but I sure need some time to re-torque the headbolts on the World heads, and fine tune before I start it on 40 mile/day duty! It's all new stuff.
Glad you got yours working, but pull that panel, replace anything that's badly worn, and lube the moving parts with EP grease,...that'll last a lifetime! I did that with FRANKENTRUCK's doors and they function just like new!
Todd.

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

Sometimes on these trucks the button gets stuck and you can lock/unlock the door cylinder and it will come loose.

Re: Opening door?? any ideas

Thanks. Yeah I played with the lock a few times the day before. It was strange like the truck was posessed and just opened... My dad thought maybe some snow or water got frozen inside the handle/ latch.

Todd,
I did lube everything very well with grease. No worn parts tho but the grease sure does make for nice movement. as you said.... like new.
