Block Hugger Header Suggestion

I am using a set of stainless steel block hugger headers. I love the look of them but my engine is using the front mounts. With the engine in the front mounts it dumped the header right down on the crossmember. I came up up with a very simple solution to correct the problem. If you cut the collector flange parallel with the factory weld and turned the lower part of the flange 90deg to get the out put heading towards the rear of the truck and on a perfect angle to miss the crossmember. I figured I would post this if there was anyone else who wanted to use this style header but was having the same problem.

what I did was cut the downspout and turned it 45 deg. instead of the spout shout down and straight it angles it back and toward the back of the cross member. it works out great!
I have a tig welder and that is what I had used to weld them with. you could use a mig setup to weld stainless. if you would be interested you could send me the header and i could weld it for you. i would only ask that you would cover my electric and gas to weld it. i would like $10-15 to cover it. if interested let me know. i had put a thread up asking if people would be interested in an online welding service. I will add link so you can see some welds if you are concerned. also if interested I will include link to a guy that I bought all of my SS exhaust tubing from. great guy with great prices, that can't be beat on SS tubing.

Re: Block Hugger Hedder Suggestion

why buy a ford, here is a pic of the left header and right one and how it works out. the right side is not the best and can post a better one if needed.

Re: Block Hugger Hedder Suggestion

perfect! Thanks again for pointing me towards these, I won't need any mods though because my 400 is in the rear mount location, they should clear the crossmember.

Re: Block Hugger Hedder Suggestion

crap.. the pipe attached to the flange is only 2 inch diameter.. I was afraid of that... needed a 2 1/2. Not sure why they don't put that in the ad.

Re: Block Hugger Hedder Suggestion

well now I'm confused, I tried installing them and they are hard up aginst the block just below the center cylinders and the flange at the collector is hard aginst the oil pan lip??? I called skipwhite and they said they've never seen this and that there is only one type of SS block hugger header they sell. I definately dont have the block clearance that you do in those pics. I noticed the title in your ad had YK-1 one at the end and mine didnt but they say that wouldn't matter.

I am sorry you are having troubles. Did skipwhite offer to make it better/rectify the situation? If there is anything I can do to help let me know.

Re: Block Hugger Header Suggestion

no... his tech guy basically gave me the oh well attitude. I checked my heads but there are no signs they've been machined, they look normal compared to other sbc heads, pulled the covers off as well and found out they were the stock 333882 heads that match the 76 400 motor and I doubt they've ever been off. Guess I got a bad set of headers. I noticed yours have a flat profile on the flange where the ones he offers like mine are milled out between where the runners come out of the flange. They might have changed the tooling or something that screwed up the angle. I'll post some pics here in a second. Ignore the dirty motor it runs like a champ!

Re: Block Hugger Header Suggestion

pics.. at least they clear the mounts! There is contact with the block where both outer tubes come down under the head and into the collector. Both sides.
