Quick Questions
#1 Just bought a 72 GMC K2500, what gears would be in it, 4.57 or 4.10???
#2 I was looking up info about 2 of my 350's; one is a TBC (1970) and the power ratings come up as 255hp as expected. The second is TRK (1972) and it comes up as 175hp? Are my sources wrong or was there a power drop? #3 I’m picking up another 350 (part of the K2500 deal) its block casting 3970010. I’ve been told its high nickel (it's got the 010) and 4 bolt mains. Thing is it’s a 2 barrel? Was this custom ordered or standard in 69 or something? |

Re: Quick Questions
It could be ordered in almost any gear ratio, let me look at my literature tonight and I will tell you what the options were.

Re: Quick Questions
I have a list of options here but it is from 1970. Also, on the chart it shows that with a 350 and SM465 there would be 4.57* gears standard, than at the bottom of the chart it says *4.10 were used on 4wd trucks with a 350 and SM465 or TurboHyadra.... So im a little confused. Lol

Re: Quick Questions
There should be a code stamped on top of the axle, passenger side. Mine was pretty faint, but there. Clean it off & use a good shop/flash light & a mirror to find it. I am looking for the link to the codes......

Re: Quick Questions
some 350 4bolts were two barell...and some were converted later in there lives.....the 0010 block is indeed the high nickel block and a nice solid foundation to build on..prolly most likely from a truck originally

Re: Quick Questions
In 1971 the HP ratings changed from gross to net [basically minus the accessories]. They were also lowered by the automakers to cut insurance costs...some much more than they actually were at the flywheel.

Re: Quick Questions
4:10 standard from factory with that engine and tranny. I have same setup, the 307 V8 and I6 trucks had 4:56 standard
