so one of my exhaust pipes broke off from the muffiler and now i have a few questions like....

1. whats a good but not too expesive catback exhaust system
2.whats the pros and cons of just cutting my catalytic converter

and this is all for my 1981 custom deluxe stepside with a sbc 400 thanks in advance

You can order an X pipe from your local parts store. Add dual magnaflow mufflers.

You don't have to worry about cats on your truck around here.. all I have is Hooker long tube headers with header mufflers bolted to the collectors. It's not super loud, but it sounds good to me.

how much did all that cost ya like the header mufflers also any loss in low end torque with that setup

The headers were about $200 and the mufflers were about $40 each.. and I gained some hp and torque with it

Yes, they're Cherry Bomb header mufflers

well i prefer flow masters over cherry bombs..
just personal preference and not until 84' do you have to worry about catalytic converters...
my 83 has a pre axle dump with headers and flowmaster mufflers..
i love the way it sounds not TOOOO loud.. but not quiet.. set me back 300 bucks for all new pipe and mufflers but it was worth it to me

I'm gathering parts to add dual stacks to my '86 1 ton flatbed, when I shortened and re mounted the bed, I left 5 inches of space between the bed and cab.

The plan is to run 2.5 in pipe from the iron manifolds to '06 corvette mufflers, (hey, ya use whatcha got) add an H pipe, keep them inside the frame rails and turn them up between the cab and bed, supported with the headache bar, and run them up about a foot higher than the wing. (got ta have a place to put them tractor type rain floppers.) Hopefully, this will keep that black crap off the carhualer.

Can't decide weather to spring for the nice smooth 90* mandrel bends, or just bend the pipe in the muffler bender. (ugly, but cheap)

Anybody have a good Cheap sugestion for fabbing heat shields? and should I drill a condensate drain hole in the bottom of the 90's ? Thanks, RED.

imho, stacks should only be on deisels

I guess stacks on a gas pickup must be a southern/good ol' boy thing. Ever since the local dragstrip started makin' the diesel guy's turn thier exhuast up away from the track surface, ('cause it made slick spots) the "farm truck" crowd has been tryin' to look like the big boys. Me, I'm just tired of scrubbin' that black smut off the front of the race car trailer. RED
