3/5 drop question
I came scross a good deal on a DJM 3/5 drop kit for my 84 stepside. I currently have 235/75/16 tires on it now. Will they clear with this drop? Do I need dropped shocks to? I plan to add spindals and another 1" drop in the rear later but for now a 3/5 will look alot better than it does now.

What does the kit consist of?
3" front springs and a flip kit? Up front you will need drop shocks for sure. The rear may not if it comes with shock extenders.

I don't think so. If you go lower, later on,... they probably will be too tall.

yeah I remember reading on here to keep the tires under 28" when you drop them alot. I want to have a 5/6 or 5/7 eventually and will definatly change the wheels and tires before going that route. i just don` want to buy this kit and then not be able to put it on because of my tires being too tall. They are pretty narrow so that might work in my favor.

So I got my lowering kit today. I got it off of craigslist for $50 and it`s pretty much new. So what else do I need to install this kit? It came with 3" front springs and a flip kit with shock extenders.

WHAT!!! I am on Sacramento craigslist every day. How did I miss that deal?? Sweet score dude. Probably need a C-notch for the flip kit. I think FBI in El Dorado hills has the for fairly cheap.

I almost missed it myself and thought I was too late since it took him a few days to get back to me. he said they were installed and driven around a parking lot and then decided it wasn`t low enough and went with something else. I read a recent thread about a DJM flip kit install and it looks like I can get by with just removing the factory bumpstops. I was hoping I wouldn`t need anything elst to install this stuff on my 84.

Trim up your lower control arms around the lower ball joint area and remove the front bumpstops. Then get some good front shock. I like using Belltech.

Any 15" wheel with a backspacing over 3.5" will rub with drop spindles. Since you talked about going lower later on,... NOW is a good time to trim the excess metal while you are swapping springs. Removeal of the metal bumpstop stand will gain you clearence for running your shorter 3" drop springs. Just add an aftermarket rubber bump stop.
Search for "lower control arm trimming" on here. It's been talked about a bunch and has pics.

Probably not. But I wouldn't know for sure without seeing them. You can do it later if you add spindles. It's just something I always do,... no matter what wheels I using. That way EVERYTHING fits.

Thanks for the input. I`ll take a good look at it when i put the springs in. I was planning to go lower but I`ll probably stick with the 3/5 for a while since I got it so cheap. Money is tight when your not working.
