68 Daily driver
Hello to all. Newb here. I am looking into a 68 3/4 4x4 suburban with a 327 and a 4 speed for a daily driver. It seems to be in good shape. I will be taking it for a test drive later this week. I searched and found all of the normal rust spots that you guys suggest to check, so I will take pics when I see it. Do you all think it would be a decent daily driver (given that it's in reliable mechanical shape)? I noticed that many of you drive these daily. Any woes? I love to work on vehicles so I'm up for the challenge. I had a 68 chevelle (which I should have never sold) and since have been a toyota owner. I'm going back and forth between the burb and a 93 4runner. I know it's oranges and apples but I do like the idea of having a vehicle that is easy to work on and that parts are relatively cheap. Any suggestions or advise would be appreciated.

Re: 68 Daily driver
no comparison. take the burb. in the end you'll be happier, and look cooler than having an "everyday, run-of-the-mill" 4runner

Re: 68 Daily driver
it all comes down to what condition its in.... there is no reason why it couldnt be a good daily if its all up to par...but take in to consideration that if you dont know whats all been done to it, that alot of parts on it just might be 40 years old, so expect to fix stuff

Re: 68 Daily driver
well, probably no surprise but i'd say go with the burb. often the best part of my day is the drive to/from work in my '68 panel. and as for tinkering, it's fun and affordable.
so, it's been awhile since your first post......did the burb work out or are you still in the hunt? welcome!! |

Re: 68 Daily driver
If you're still debating on the 4Runner, look at it this way. You're going to have to work on both, which will be easier and more fun? The burb hands down. 1) cheaper 2) easy to diagnose/fix 3) way cooler.

Re: 68 Daily driver
That burb is a rare bird. My redbook shows a 1968 3/4 ton burb as only 299 produced.I'd go for the burb!!!

Re: 68 Daily driver
Go with the burb my friend! I have a 68 K20 burb, and she is my baby! I've also owned a 4runner, and it was a big PITA since it's IFS suspension was a joke.
