new wider 60 series tire

I saw this thread where a guy was looking for a wider tire than 275/60/15 but keep the height (28 inches). It's kind of a 305/55R15 size.

He found these MT S/R radials that fit a 10 inch rim and have 12 inches of tread width. They have the same height tire with 10 inch tread too.

Re: new wider 60 series tire

from what i have noticed is that people tend to think that the 60 part of the tire size is the width its really
275mm wide then the 60 is 60% of the width makes the height of the sidewall my dad used to think that a 60 series tire was always wider it just looks wider because its shorter just my 2 cents

Re: new wider 60 series tire

In a 60 series tire, it will harder to go much wider than what was originally listed. To get anything wider than the tread pattern on a 275/60/15 tire, you would have to go to a 50 series tire, but then you give up the diameter.

I found that many manufacturers have gotten away from any seriously wide 15" tires and to get what you want, one must go to a 17", 18", or larger rimmed tire to get the tread width.

Re: new wider 60 series tire

I have ten inch Weld Prostars on my 67 stepside. I had P295/50/15 Firestone Indy 500 Radials mounted. I measure thirteen inches wide installed on the wheels. I had originally stated 60s I went to verify and they are 50s.

Re: new wider 60 series tire

After I (or my wife) dented a couple rims with rubber band tires on our other car, I appreciate more sidewall and don't like going less the 45 series anymore if possible.

Finally a voice of common sense. The rubber bands are the style, but the damage is real.
