1 Ton of vanity
Hey I bought a 67 1 ton dually a few weeks ago and I've been working on getting it inspection ready. Someone swapped the front to disc brakes already so that was nice of them. Currently it has a 350 with a turbo 400, I'm not sure what the rear is but it's very low. It's got some rust at the rockers that I'll have to patch and the fender well are rusted at the front supports. Most of the bed is covered in surface rust but that shouldn't be an issue. I need to get some reverse lights working on it and fix the plate lights and I believe the hazard has a bad relay other than that it's fine. Anyway here's some pictures.
I say vanity because I have no need for it, I just like it. |

Re: 1 Ton of vanity
Thanks for the welcome, the fun with this old thing hasn't ended since I got it. The fuse panel was completely rusty when I got it, the wipers stopped working on the drive home, the hazards I haven't got to yet, the tail lights blew the fuse yesterday and I can't get them back on yet, I suspect a short somewhere. I couldn't get it to start for 2 days presumably from moisture in the distributor, and I had to replace the battery the first day it was cold because the one in it was the size of my Miata battery. On top of all these great things, today when I got in my Miata to go get the diodes for the turn signals and hazards it turned on for 3 seconds then shut off, which is fantastic because that means I have to buy a new coil pack......again. But other than that everything has been working out great. Edited by Moderator, all I can see in them is the corner point of the front of the bed. This is pretty much worthless unless I'd like to see if the paint is peeling off that 8 inches or so. Oh yeah and the fuel mileage must be amazing on this thing, the gauge has said I'm well beyond full since I bought it.

Welcome! I bet you find a trade for those mirrors pretty quickly...I'd do it if I were closer to you.
Good luck with the truck, and be sure to keep us all updated on how it goes.

Re: 1 Ton of vanity
It goes terrible, now neither vehicle runs. Can't even begin to think what might be wrong with the truck but I now have no power to anything. I pulled the battery to check some wiring and when I put it back I got no power to anything, I can directly wire it to stuff and they turn on so I know the battery itself is fine. The wiring in this thing is disgusting at best though so I guess I can't complain about it. I checked the bottom today for a better idea of what I was in for. The cab needs new bushings/bump stops/whatever they are. I'll need to replace parts of the cab frame by the corners, a new front cross member and the top edges of the fender wells. Funny how you try to fix one thing and at the end of the day you're worse off than you were when you started.

Re: 1 Ton of vanity
Well after reading a bunch of posts on wiring I decided to go out and put 4 grounds on my negative cable and to my surprise it fired right up and all my lights are working now. Simple things, I wish my Miata issue was this simple. $300 for a part that has over a 50% failure rate. Every other year the coils are only about $60, real nice.

Re: 1 Ton of vanity
No takers on the mirrors yet. I'm talking about some full window length mirrors, not just the small square or rectangles.
Like the type you'd find on the C40 and bigger trucks. |

Re: 1 Ton of vanity
Mine bolt top to bottom but the mirror itself takes about 1/2-3/4 of the window. I can see a lot out of them... rusty but here they are

Re: 1 Ton of vanity
I'm interested in the mirrors, I can't see anything at all out of mine so I have no need for them and I'm willing to trade for the larger ones.
msgross if you're looking to get rid of them I'll take them. I'm from Lewistown. You're out by Williamsport? |
