NOS bed wood - Central PA

1960-1972 Long or Short Step NOS Bed Wood w/four extra boards (two fleet wheel well boards and two step outer skinny boards) You could cut the 103" boards down and trim them to work on a short fleet...

Whats included:
4 ea. 103" x 7 7/16" boards (longhorn)
2 ea. 97" x 7 7/16" wheel well boards (long bed or short bed)
4 ea. 97" x 3 1/8" outer boards (long or short stepsides)
2 ea. 97" x 5 7/16" center boards (long or short bed fleet or step)

More info @
http://www.gmcpauls.com/47-72_BedWood_Info.htm

OK, here it is... For those hard core NOS guys. All main boards are 103" (longhorn anyone?) and the skinny boards and wheel well area boards are 97". Only one skinny board has any type of cracking noticed in the pic below but it won't affect fuction and adds to the character.

I think that GM expected you to cut the boards to fit your type of bed. All holes are drilled for the sides and wheel wells. There are two boards stacked at the top of the first pic. Sorry it's a little dirty, I didn't want to power wash it though!

$450 + shipping

Anyone ever seen NOS wood?

Don't pressure wash it, you might lose the parts stickers!! That is a really cool find, I would have liked to have known about them several years ago for the BB truck. Nice, very Nice.

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

Houston we have a problem...

Edit:

This is a 1960-1972 short or long step wood set with four extra boards. It's missing the outer 6 3/8" boards for a fleet (per GMCPauls website)

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

Mike
I would love to have this for either one of my 67 frame off restorations if we can figure some way to ship these. Anyone have any ideas to get this down Interstate 80 to Nebraska or a way to ship 103" boards?
Mark

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

Mike, You have exactly what can be used for a swb fleetside or a stepside. If you measure the fall off from 103" from those 4 boards you have the 4 short pieces covered on the outside of the fleetside floor. I remember I ran into this figuring the one longbox out I did from GM wood back 25 years ago when this wood was cheeper from GM than buying 10 footers and cutting them down for 8'2 pieces. I sure wish I could make this work out to build an ultimate survivor style pickup but the shipping and timing is just a hassle. Thanks, Mark

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

That's a good thought, but a guy would have to recut the outside groove, no biggie but the width is different. According to GMC Pauls the outer boards are 6 3/8" and the big boards are currently 7 7/16"...

I understand about the shipping... no problem

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

I tell you what Mike, I would much rather have the matching coal black southern pine to trim down and redrill as necessary than to try and find those original little pieces and with the same patina of the wood you have. You have a pinochle there of original pieces for some originality nut like me. I wish I didnt have money going out for three frame up restorations going on at this time. My 60 Vette project is double the dollars I had thought. If I were you I would have that beautiful wood in your 68 swb. That is just plain sweet. Mark

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

My cabinet guy is getting a quote to reproduce some wood for my truck. If the price is right then these will sell, if not then i'll think about installing in my truck...

What do you think walnut would look like with SS strips?

Re: NOS bed wood - Central PA

That would look great. My personal choice is going away from the oak and polished look so many show trucks have. I had planned until I saw your OEM wood, to use a yellow pine kit and seal and finish in automotive paint each board with base/clear gloss black and either powder coat black bed strips or use the polished stainless. I like the automotive paint system for the durability of washing and sun light.

Nothing extra needed, I looked into using this in my short fleet, you need to cut all the boards shorter (of course) and use the scrap from the longhorn boards to make the 4 short 6 3/8" (ripped down from 7 7/16") boards for in front and behind the wheelwell. The proper groove will still be present for your metal strip. A good tablesaw is all you need. You would then have extra 3 1/8"" boards that are only needed for a stepside and a few short scrap pieces from the center boards. I don't think they made special kits for short beds since you could build any set with this setup.

GMCpauls website has all the measurements.

call me if that sounds confusing (PM for number)
