4/6 vs 5/7... Any suggestions?

I am in the process of resto-modding my dad's 84 SWB and am nearly to the suspension portion of the project. I know I want to use Western Chassis components (spindles, springs, flip kit, shackles and C-notch), but can't decide on the amount of drop. It's going to be a fair-weather cruiser and will hopefully see some long cruises and maybe even do a Power Tour one day; definitely not a daily driver. I will be using 17x8 and 17x9.5 Torq Thrust's with 245/50 and 275/50 Nitto's.

My other 84 is lowered 3/5 and it's not really low enough, while my brother's 87 is 4/6 and seems about right, but I keep wanting a little more to make it stand out. Does anyone have any pic's of the two or suggestions either way?

I woulld go 5/7 if not more. I wish my truck was lower. I have spindles and springs and a flip kit in the rear. If you dont have to drive it every day make it as low as you can.

I don't think I have ever heard any one say "I wish I hadn't lowered it this much". On the other hand, I don't know how many times I have heard" I wish I had lowered it more".

On these trucks, 5/7 isn't really that low. I saw go for it now, or regret it later.

My truck has a 6/7 drop with tires (255/60R15), spindals, lowered coils, shackels and hangers. It's not low enough!! I plan to install lowering leafs and C-notch mid-late spring. I might even have to install a shorter coil spring to match the rear end height. The rear does not matter. A larger tire in the rear can level it out again.

Park your truck on a level surface. Measure from the ground up. Measure to the wheel well center lip. Determine how close you want your front tire to the lip. Remember, these trucks have a wider track width on the front!!!

I've never had a static dropped truck (and I've had a few) that sat low enough.

f.monroe's black truck is a 4/6 sitting on 17s if I remember correctly. Mine is a 4/6 on 15's via spindles and springs up front and leafs and shackles in the rear, all from western chassis. I like it, but plan to bring it down another inch or two when I get it back in the states.

Mine is 5/7, drive it 130 miles a day. I want it a bit lower!

5/7 is what I want to go with on mine. I DO NOT haul anything in it though, so I'm not going to run a small c-notch. If you want air in the future like I do, I'd go 4/6 or 5/7 (does it haul anything) and don't waste the time to run a small notch now only to have to remove it and run a much bigger notch in the future. I plan on running a 4 link and a full notch someday, so I'm not going to bother with a bolt in notch now. Do you haul anything with real weight in it? IMO=slam the hell out of it. Besides, old dudes look bad-ass in a slammed truck! You did mention that the truck is your dads, right? If not, no offense...

It will never haul anything heavier than lawn chairs and an ice chest and some tools for longer trips, but ride comfort is an issue, so it may get a small bolt-on C-notch for the time being.

It was my dad's, but will be my cruiser now... My parents ordered it brand new in October of 83 and kept it until 1994. My brother and I learned to drive in it and many of our family memories revolve around it. See below...

After my parents sold it, it changed hands many times, moving out of state twice and then re-appeared about two miles from my house. The family that had it blew the engine and started parting it out.

I traded a complete 86 long bed for the cab, frame and most of the body panels, making me the first and eleventh owner. When I got it, my parent's names and insurance info were still in the glove box. Here's a pic of us changing the oil around 1988.
