Not a truck question

Ok guys i know this isnt a truck question but everyone always seems to be full of helpful info on here. so here goes. my wife drives an 82 camaro z28. the other night on her way home she lost all her lights. i replaced the blown fuse, and now have every thing but head lights. can not figure out what is going on. i've replaced the headlight switch but i am not getting any power to my headlights. any help would be great. and sorry this isnt a truck question. at least its still a chevy.

Re: Not a truck question

Have you checked the grounds for the headlights?

Re: Not a truck question

actually i havent. didnt think that would just cause them to quit all at once. but that might explain the blown fuse

Also, you might want to get your headlight fluid changed...

Re: Not a truck question

I know this might sound stupid.... but did you check the bulbs? Maybe the bulbs were blown when the fuses blew...

I've learned to start with the easy things before you tear about the car and find a loose connection... don't ask me how I figured this out, or how many times it took me to learn this...

I would have hated to see how long she would have rubbed you about it had the bulbs been burnt out...

Re: Not a truck question

I had the same problem before because I installed a CD player and left the illumination wire out. It kept grounding out and popping the fuse.......
Sounds like you may have a 12volt grounding out somewhere....when you replace the fuse does it pop again?

Re: Not a truck question

I had a simular problem on my 67 Camaro-I had everything but no headlights-I replaced the switch-no fix. I accidently stepped on the dimmer switch and instant lights-I guess somehow I found a nuetral spot on the dimmer switch-I still have the same switch, I am just wiser about how it works!

Re: Not a truck question

Does the 83 have the multi function switch on the steering column that you pull to dim and bright the headlights? You might check that, sometimes the wires get bare from rubbing back and forth. Happened to me...

Re: Not a truck question

Here's a link from thirdgen.org with the wiring diagram for a later model, should be the same as yours.

Hope it helps, if you don't have the diagram already.
