It's so simple, even I could do it!

I have been trying to set the timing on my son's 68 283 and my 63 350 for days. Had them running but they were far from right. I finally read "Timing 101" in the FAQ section (4 times) after I couldn't find any rock hard answers. I realized that both trucks vacuum advance were hooked up to ported vacuum at carb. I searched engine bay pics on our site and it seems most of us have the vacuum advance hooked up to ported vacuum (passengers side on my edelbrocks). So I switched both trucks to full manifold vacuum and set timing according to "Timing 101" and WOW!!! What a difference. I had way too much initial timing before. Just wanted to pass this along, maybe it will help someone else. Read "Timing 101", great eye opener. Happy New Year!!!

I had the same experience. I started out using the timed vacuum port and 10 degrees advance. It idles way better on full vacuum and 8 BTDC.
