Awhile back I posted my discovery of rust in the roof of my '67 GMC, then a couple days ago- I started to replace the rockers only to find far more cancer than expected. Well, the chances of me finding a good, solid, and affordable small window cab are slim to none- so I took many of ya'lls advice, grew a pair and started the transformation. Since most of the drip rail is either seriously rusted or already eaten through- I figured I'd start with the shave.
For those of you contemplating this mod, be forewarned that it is not for the impatient or faint of heart. It's a complete pain in the azz!!
Here's the progress so far- still needs a bit of welding, grinding, hammering and finishing, but hopefully you get the jist of what the deal is.

Yeah, the three pieces of metal that converge at that point are certainly an issue. I have a friend with a cab that someone had good intentions of re-doing and one of their ideas was to eliminate the drip rail...without having the cab on a chassis or a jig. Can you say "tweaked?" Another part of the equation could have been that they had also removed the original dash and installed a '95-96 dash.

Yea ive given some serious thought to the shave treatment also as mine pretty much nonexistent in spots...I could comend you...that looks good and takes a set of brass lol

it has worked for me in the past "mind over matter" you will soon find out that you can do many thing in you put your minds to it..Ask me how I know,,,,,if you have the equipment,time and desire anything is possible.

The secret is to go in very small increments. I cut off about an inch at a time, welded up the edge, ground it down and then moved on. I did this 22 times just to get to the windshield frame! All in all to shave the rail above and behind the door took me about 3-1/2 hours. (with a couple beverage-breaks in there of course)
