ADDCO Sway Bar Install 65C10

I installed a sway bar in my 65 this weekend. I have exhaust interference problems on the rear one so that will have to wait.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Alan, Go figure. My install required the rivet removal. Your video was great. I would appreciate some more instruction!

Your bar is different from mine. That might be the problem. If that makes any sense.

Re: ADDCO Sway Bar Install 65C10

Nice write up, I've been wanting to add one of those too.

Question: Would it have worked to skip the angle bracket on the a-arm, and move the whole bar mount back some inch or so, so the link on the a-arm goes through the top surface on the a-arm itself? (Thus eliminating the angle bracket, ie one more piece that might fall off some day.)

Re: ADDCO Sway Bar Install 65C10

I think you would have avoided the bumper bracket clearance issue with the use of either factory stands or the aftermarket lowered stands on the frame mounting points. Im not familiar with this kit or what your whole plan involves, just thought I'd mention.

Re: ADDCO Sway Bar Install 65C10

Hey rickf,

This bar is too wide to mount directly on the A-arm, it would run into the rubber bumper mounts. Good idea though.

Hey Protrash64,

I could have just put a 1/8" spacer under the frame mounts but the interference just required less than 1/8" ground off the bracket flanges, 5 minute job.

Thanks for the input.

Re: ADDCO Sway Bar Install 65C10

Well, I have driven the truck with the front anti-roll bar for a while and I can say that the difference in handling is remarkable. Without the bar the truck seemed like it was going to roll over going around almost any sharp curve at speed. Now she stays flat. I would highly recommend adding a bar to any truck that doesn't have one, it is the best upgrade I have made.... Well maybe disc brakes were better. The truck is much more pleasurable to drive.

I talked to a professional test driver today and he reminded me that while the handling is much improved the truck will still turn over at about the same speed around a corner as before. There is a benefit in emergency events like a double lane change around that alligator in the middle of the road. Since you don't get the roll momentum the truck is more likely to keep the shiny side up.

Next up, the rear bar.

You just answered my question...the test is in the driving. sounds like this is an improvement every owner who will be driving theirs should make.
Great job on the write up.

Re: ADDCO Sway Bar Install 65C10

Is it possible to use a stabalizing bar from a 1973-87 on a 1965 truck instead of buying the kit from brothers?

Thats what 'm planning on doing. I just need the mounts that go on the frame to put it on.

Please let me know if it works and how it turns out when you get done. I know you can buy just the rubber mounts from the LMC catalogs fairly cheap.

Thanks

Hey, I don't know about LMC's price on the rubber mounts you mentioned, but I'd bet you could buy them from Advance A/P or other local supplier for considerably less than LMC's price-plus-shipping. Hope this helps out a little!
