Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
Hey Everyone,
Sorry for so many posts, just looking for things I haven't found via search function. I'm considering running some fog lights, perhaps behind my grill (truck is a 67), and I'm curious what others have done. I'm planning on doing some sort of HID conversion, maybe even fab up some projectors in the headlights, but I'd also love to have some yellow fog lights down low for crappy visibility days. Thanks! |

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
I've got a hid conversion for mine sat under my desk yet to be fitted, its a cheapo chinese one from ebay but they're pretty much all the same. I am also intending to french some 55mm diameter Hella LED rear fog lights (a legal requirment in the UK) into my big ass rear step bumper along with some UK spec turn signals so I can return the backup lights to well backup lights as currently they are wired as turn signals with orange bulbs in. I was considering frenching some front fogs into the bumper if theres enough room behind it. I'd be interested to see what people come up with. The thing with front fogs is you want them as close to the road as possible so that you get less scatter and they just light the road surface.

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
In Europe are the US reverse lights used as turn signals? I'd love to do that mod and run auxiliary back up lights. Having orange signals is way better than using the brake lights, imo
The HID conversion you have, is it just the bulb, or did you buy whole new headlights? |

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
By law on cars newer ear;ly 60's I think, you are not allowed flashing red tailights as turn signals. The easiest way to convert to orange tail-lights is to use the back-up lights with an orange bulb in them, just means having the wiring hacked about a bit. This does of course mean you then have no backup lights but thats no so hard to solve I guess. My plan is to restore the backup lights to the way they were and put a pair of orange led lights and a set of red rear fog lights in the bumper.
The hid kit consists of the bulbs, ballasts and wiring harness.

Here's mine....going to relocate them to the grill soon with better mounting system. They shake a bit since the mounting tab is plastic.

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
Here in Texas we have no light alignment inspection and over here fog lights are not really fog lights, I call them "Low Beam Assist lights." Which is what everyone uses them for.
I'm not a fan of fog lights -at least here in Texas. But don't misunderstand, they're a great help in fog or rainy nights. It's just that drivers don't use them for what they were intended for. I used to drive a lot at night and would get blinded by them constantly. That being said, fog lights should be mounted on the lowest possible location if you intend to use them for that purpose. Otherwise, they will reflect back in your face when driving in foggy conditions. |

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
An easy way would be to get a bumper that has the turn signals in it and replace with fog lights. Either that or use the bumper signals and replace the signals in your grill with fogs.

Like tech1's http://www.gmcpauls.com/pictures/67-...rontbumper.jpg You should be able to get one from any of the vendors that frequent this forum. Unfortunately LMC is not one of them.... LockDoc

I have a front roll pan so I had to relocate the Marker lights/Turn signals. I think they look good here behind the black grille. Fog lights should be mounted low though as stated.

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
I've got the aftermarket bumper as well. I bought mine back when they were cheap, prices have gone up a good bit on all bumpers
A rock went through one of my fog lights while on the interstate, how the F that little "miracle" happened, I have no clue. It sucked replacing the lights for $50 (only sold in pairs.)

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
I purchased a 71-72 bumper for my 69-70 grill. I used the 71-72 blinker cut-outs for driving lights. Actually they are disconnected right now. That wire is used for the winter to power my plow lights. Next spring I'll remove the plow frame and re-hook up the driving lights.

I bought a regular painted bumper and welded everything into it. Shaved the bumper bolts also.

The bumper is painted to match the bottom paint on the truck. I have some nicks already in it but I drive it all the time.

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
I like the home made solution. I've already got a a painted bumper, so I might look for some nice PIAA round fog lights that can fit in the bumper and cut a hole.
Did you guys just cut holes in the bumper, or did you make a sleeve and mount for the light? Anymore pictures of the job? Looks great by the way! |

I couldn't find any lights that fit the hole better so I then started looking for lights that had the same length to height ratio. I ended up with a pair off the shelf at Wal*Mart.

Re: Anyone Running Fog Lights? Post up some pics!
I can get you some measurments tonight after work. I bought the lights at Auto Zone. I have them wired to the park lights so they are on anytime the park lights are on. Been meaning to wire them with a relay but haven't done that yet. Pretty simple to do just make sure you aim the holes right are they will be looking up when you mount the bumper.
