Boxing Frame and Powder Coat Color for Pulling Truck
Doing a frame swap due to some rust issues around the rear spring hangers. Was thinking about powder coating the frame before I moved the cab over and can’t decide on a color for the frame and springs. Was thinking gloss black, but wanted something a little different since I might go to the expense and trouble of powdercoating it. Any ideas??
Also while I am doing this I am going to box most of the frame sections since this truck will see the occasional truck/tractor pulling scene. Any good ideas on how to box it. And what works better than some? Anyone boxed their frames?? Will add some pics of my progress eventually but have added some before pics. Thanks guys

I know you want to be different, but there is really only 1 color I would use.. Black. Your truck is already different enough being that it's nice. Black and only black. Anything else might look sort of gay if you ask me.

Ya man, I understand wanting to be different, but I've seen some frames/suspension painted different colors and IMO it looked very crude, like no one put thought into it. And if its a pull truck, wheres the exhaust stacks out of the bed behind the cab

I agree with both you, the wife also says Gloss black. I am also leaning that way but wanted something just a little different but definatly nothing gay, that has crossed my mind many time. In college I had a red short bed that had a black frame and yellow springs and brackets. I personally thought it looked good, but I never heard the end of it from some of my friends. Thirdstreettito I like that silver vein, a little different but not to drastic, I could then leave my leaf springs and axles black. Lucky, if it was a diesel the stacks would definatley be out the be behind the cab Anyone boxed their frame?? Any pulling guys out there with any tips??

i've boxed lots of frames over the years . i've always taken 1/8plate strips c-clamped in place traced them then cuut them out with a jigsaw and welded and finished not really all that difficult if you think ahead as to hoh you're going to mount things like gas and brake lines as well as mountin bolts for crossmembers and engine mounts

Any pics? Is 1/8'' really thick enough. Planned on mounting the brake and fuel lines to the plate I welded with some of those metal/rubber lined clamps.

rule of thumb is to not go thicker than the frame material. so 1/8" would be perfect. reason being is thicker metals flex at different rates, and could cause stress cracks in the frame.

you can use 1/4" plate but the stock frame will crack eventually. this is what ive been told numerous times.
