Crazy ingenious cummins plan
Everyone knows the Cummins 6bt 12v is the best diesel motor put in a full size truck ever. Also An Allison automatic transmission is the best automatic trans, ever put in a truck. So why don't you guys just buy the one vehicle that you can get both and then scrap the rest? You can get the donor vehicle pretty darn cheap to. Does any one know what vehicle I am talking about? I will give you a hint think big.

Re: Crazy ingenious cummins plan
Great idea...
But.... have you ever tried to get rid of a bus without an engine? The scrap yards around here will not take them... ask me how I know.. LOL |

Re: Crazy ingenious cummins plan
When my dad used to be the bus mechanic at a local decent sized school district, they would usually auction the buses off with around 150-160k and weren't that old. One of the buses with a running 6bta, allison, and almost brand new tires and brakes auctioned for $1200. (At the same auction they sold a '78 Ford F250 4x4 that had a HP dana 60 front axle, a 300 ci L6 engine, NP435/205. It also had a 7.5' fisher plow on the front. $700, rusty, ran and drove. 35,000 orig. miles. I am still kicking myself about that)
one nice thing about the buses is that the engines have accessory mount air compressors bolted to the block, great for oba or airride. One guy I knew did this and actually cut the body up with a gas powered saw like the fire department uses to cut apart car wrecks. He kept the frame for whatever reason, but scrapped the body. I think he took all the window frames out and just threw them away. A lot of work but he got a decent chunk of change out of it. Also, the front and rear towhooks on school buses are fairly burly. If you scrap one out I suggest you keep these and bolt them onto your 4x4 project.
