You should also ask for tire size

Re: The Drop Thread

If y'all want to put together a serious effort I will clean things up as they go.

I suggest everyone post tire/wheel size and backspace along with amount of drop and method/brand of parts used.

Brand name and company you got 'em from for sure! Because I'm still trying
to figure out what suspension parts I want to buy, and who to buy from.

And if you didn't like the part, or the service from the company, tell us.

I first lowered my 77 with DJM Drop shackles and DJM 2" coils, I got 'em
at Harry's Hot rod and they were a little over priced compaired to mail order,
but I didn't have to wait.

Then I lowered the front more with DJM 3" spindles I got from
Godfather customs. The cost around $260? shipped,
and got here fast and not beat up,
but those DJM spindles had to be ground down to fit 15x7 steel wheels,
and ground down even more to fit rallys, aluminum wheels were not even
close to fitting, so they would only be good for bigger wheels, plus I scraped
the ground all the time, so I removed them, but would have kept them had I
known another truck was going to folow me home.

The rear got lowered more by removing the hangers and welding higher on
the frame, and two springs removed ea. side. About a 5" drop total.
Should have done a flip kit.

235/70 Front. 275/60 Rear

mine is a 1984 lwb heavy half. it has 15x8 inch rally wheels the front are 255/60r15 and out back is 275/60r15. the drop is western chassis 3" drop coil springs up front and a flip kit out back. with it being a heavy half and originally having the 3/4ton springs the 3/5 kit actually lowered my truck 4.25/6.50 rides nice and smooth with the rear shock extenders and factory shocks on the back, the front is belltech drop shocks.

you technicaly dont have to do the cnotch, but without it, ur ride would suck, the frame would bottom out on the axle every little uneven ground. with a cnotch, they is a good 2-3 more inches that give for a more comfortable ride.

you dont have to run a notch on the 5" drop if you have 5 leafs and an overload, because the springs don't allow the rear end up that far. The 4 leaf and an overload will hit the frame. So count your leafs and you can use this as a reference. One thing i've noticed also is that if your leafs are worn (even with 5+ intermediate leafs)
they may allow your rear to hit the frame.
