roof marker lights question

which type of roof marker light was aval. on the 10-20 series trucks? i have seen 2 types. the 1st type is these, which would bolt on to any cab. and then there's these, which required a special cab where the roof was molded to accept these lenses. the ad says for 50-60 series but i have seen these on 10-20 serious (i believe). i have a 72 1/2 ton 4x4 and want to put the correct cab light on it. any help is apriciated. thanks!

This has been discussed before...There were a couple types used, and then even more that were dealer installed too. I am thinking that these ones are the dealer ones.

Another oddity is that some cabs came with a raised circular portion for the cab lights, while others (with the lights listed as an option) did not have the circular portion.

I have a roof with the "odd" raised circular portion for the lights, and the guy I got it from said it came from a C-10 4x4, what's odd about my roof is that the lights that go on the corners kind of point to the side not straight to the front as the ones in the middle do and the plastic lenses are not the ones you guys have here.

Here is what I've observed over the years.

1. The teardrop style was dealer of aftermarket installed and can be fitted to any pickup truck 67-72 series 10-30. All trucks I've had with these had no mention on option sticker for roof clearance lights.

2. The factory installed clearance lights used a special roof with 5 hockey puck sized raised mounting points. I believe this roof design was borrowed from the pickup series bigger cousins (40-60 series) as cabs are nearly identical. There was always a notation on the option sticker for "clearance lights", not sure verbage or option #. With this option there were 2 styles of lenses used, the round ones on the ebay auction and a more teardrop shaped lens. My observation is that the round lenses were used in 69-70 and the teardrop factory installed ones in 71-72. I have never seen a 67 or 68 with ORIGINAL cab that had factory installed clearance lights though I've not seen every truck ever made. FYI, the factory installed outboard lights face out angled, whereas the 3 center lights face forward. My 72 GMC 3/4 4x4 has factory clearance lights with the teardrop lens. I've seen a 69 or 70 series 40-60 in a junk yard with the round lenses.

Anyway thats my take on it for what it's worth.

Believe Jeff got it right. Several trucks in a local junk yard have the hocky puck roofs with the round lights on them. Never paid much attention to them once I saw the condition of the housings and the lenses~~~. The teardrop shaped lights are aftermarket or dealer installed (like them better anyway!). Huck

Question

I have an original '71 Cheyenne super (rustbucket) but orig. The roof has the raised hockey puck lights. The glovebox says option # U01 marker lamps. It also has headliner, cargo light, 402/400, & A/C. I've just about given up trying to find a nice replacement cab with all these items. A member suggested finding a rusted cab with a raised light roof panel & patching it into a nice A/C cab. Sounds like a plan?

We have a 1988 GMC Brigadare truck that has the round hockey puck lights, so I bet replacements can still be bought. In fact the cab is the same as they were in 1966 or 67 only they weren't called brigadares . The door handles and dome light are the same as 67 up pickups.

Here is a picture of the roof marker lights on my 69 C-30. These lenses are correct for 69-87. The one's that came on the truck were the flat one's in next picture.

Re: roof marker lights question

So does anybody know if they ever were available in67 and 68? Or just from 69 up?

And I assume they were only available on the trucks, not the suburbans or panel trucks, correct? Or do factory cab lights exist on the suburbans and panel trucks? (maybe with the hockey puck roof)?

Re: roof marker lights question

I have the same maker lights pictured above on my 70gmc k2500. I have heard them refferd to as a firemans hat type marker lense. Hockey pucks and firemans hats,

Re: roof marker lights question

The tear drop type w/chrome was used up through '68. They could be factory ordered or added. They weren't mandated yet by ICC on C/30 DRW. In '69 the round base all plastic type went into use and that's when the roof pods began. All C/30 DRW trucks got them and it was an option on everything else. In '69 the style was what we call hockey puck, then it went to the fireman's hat. Clearance lamps could be ordered on a Suburban or Panel.

* Thanks for bringing back an ancient thread. Some good old names here. We've worked this stuff out eons ago.

Re: roof marker lights question

I might as well ad this link to the thread.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=598129

It is a "how to" I posted about modifying the Harley Davidson turn signal lenses to fit in place of the "Hockey Puck" lenses. They would also replace the "Fireman's Hat" lenses in a pinch.
