Front end may possibly need rebuilding? Alignment issues? Loose hub maybe? Just some ideas.

is the truck lifted? what kind of tires are you running? I would inspect the Entire front end. Ball joints, tie rods, drag link, pitman arm, steering box and wheel bearings.

If you run your right tire off the road when it starts and it stops when you pull back on a new stablizer will solve the problem but this usually caused by a loose front end.

As stated above, go through the entire front end & rebuild it, not worth playing guessing games with a 40 year old front end.

More than a little surprised your still driving it that way.

Re: shaking in the front end of my truck what is it?

i was going to try a steering stablizer kit from lmc to see if that solved my problem for right now untill i can get some money together to redo the front end do you think that would work also it is the middle of winter here and no space inside to do it.

Getting it off the road until it's fixed correctly gets my vote.

Would really hate to hear the story about how you were trying it out having just put another band aid fix into it and you ran off the road and totaled the truck, or worse yet hit someone else and caused either one of you injury.

No way to tell what will help until you determine the cause.

Re: shaking in the front end of my truck what is it?

I have a friend who had 96 Ram 3/4ton 4wd. It had like 90k on it. It was only 6-7yrs old at the time He tells me that one day he is driving down the interstate and the truck bounces a few times and then its like your going over a pot holed gravel road at 50mph and you have airbags on the truck and you are jacking the bags up and down as fast as it will go. He said I have never been so scared in my life. I kinda laughed. Anyway I go one evening with him to look at a job we are going down the interstate and it starts bouncing and he says oh god here it comes And it did exactly what he said. I was scared to death. Cars were passing us and looking over disbelief. I told my dad about it he was a old mechanic dating back to the 1950's He said he had experinced it and heard a few others. He said Stop driving it and rebuild the entire front end. I would do that

Re: shaking in the front end of my truck what is it?

im just as guilty as the next guy for driving some sloppy steering old turds
but it sounds very unsafe if it is this bad
try to fix it for your safety and every other kid and family on the road
i put off fixing an old steering box once
and the day it finally stripped out i was glad it swerved right instead of left
because there was a load of high school kids in a cavalier coming head on
it coulda been ugly

Re: shaking in the front end of my truck what is it?

Take the truck to your favorite repair shop, and have the front end checked for loose parts. Any decent shop will most likely check it and give you an estimate at little or no cost. Then figure out what your game plan is. I would think the steering stabilizer idea is a great way to waste money. Ever seen a stabilizer on one of our old truck from the factory?

Well...yeah.

Parts stores seem to carry them for our trucks as a stock replacement part.

My 3/4 ton 4x4 burb had one.

Would be something worth looking into...
Get Special-K in here, he'll know.

Re: shaking in the front end of my truck what is it?

I put on a dual steering stabilizer kit last summer, it looks cool... I think I might of kinda slightly felt a difference, with stopping some bump steer, but I would have to agree with the guys..

I did have some old 35" bias ply swampers that rode like that.. Best answer for that is the TRASH...
