1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
Good evening everyone,
I've been on the forums and the net searching for the HP and Torque specs for the 327 (original) that's in my truck. Can anyone help?? Thank You very much. |

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
Find your suffix code (3 letters at the end of the engine pad stamping, in front of the passenger side head). Then look it up here:

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
I'm kinda confused, the block # that's in my truck is 3956618, the suffix code is V0212 WH. The block says it's a 327 from '68, a 302 from '69, or a 350 from '69. The suffix codes says it's a '68 model 307 with a 2 bbl. It does have a 2 barrel on it, but I'm not for sure what's in it. I was told it was a 327, but I want to be for sure. Help please

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
Go by the suffix code....that's specific to your application....
That engine is more than likely a: 1968 307 m/t - 2bbl Assembled at the Flint plant on Feb, 12 Could also be a 69 350....but the 2 bbl kinda eliminates it.... Dan Dan

Not with a "WH" suffix code...

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
True dat.I didn`t look at the code.I just keep seeing guys say all truck 350s were 4bbl.Too bad this isn`t a 250 horse `68 truck 327.I got one last year for my`67 project:large journal steel crank. That motor was perfect inside.Crank needed no machining.

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
I guess I won't know for sure until I tear it apart, the 307 has a smaller bore, correct??

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
I think that Rack Man is probably correct on this. Look at the casting date to determine year (located on rear of block on driver's side). The year combined with the suffix code will tell you what you have.

The intake ,3919801, shows to be from '68, belonging on a 307 or a 327. The passenger side exhaust (the manifold is a lot newer looking that the drivers side) shows a '68 307,350,400 (3905364) The drivers side (3855163) says its a '64-'68 283 or 327. All of this info was pulled from NastyZ28.com I believe that I'm going to have to pull it apart (when it needs it) and measure the bore on it to settle my mind unless someone else wants to chime in. Thanks for your help. ![]() |

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
The 307 will have a narrow harmonic balancer.

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
when you say narrow do you have a diameter??? thank you all for your help. The harmonic balancer pulley is pretty good sized in diameter (it almost touches my water pump pulley) and the balancer itself it bigger in diameter than the pulley is.

Re: 1968 327 specs (HP, Torque)
I`m talking about the thickness of the harmonic balancer.I have a`68 truck 327 with casting #3970010.Mortec says that`s a`68 302,327,or 350.I can`t find suffix codes on that site anywhere.Mine is VIOI8YH,which is located on the passenger side pad inront of the head. There is no pad on the driver side.I went to Nasty Z28 and they don`t even list my sufix code.
A 307 is a 283 block with a 327 crank.Basically a stroked 283.A 302 is a 327 with a 283 crank.A destroked 327.
