Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
I used elemental designs. It worked great and it's $1 a sq.ft. It made my cab quiet enough I have to get new mufflers so I can hear the truck again...lol Also it was very sticky, Some people said some brands can come off later on. If you don't have a roller to apply this stuff with, get one or it will suck.
EDIT, about a year and a half after the install... I had to pull the door panel off to put a new inner door handle on and all the stuff is still there, right where I left it. Tried to peel up a corner and couldn't get it. Last edited by 78 Chevyrado; 01-31-2010 at 05:01 AM. |

Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
go to homedepot and look in the roofing section, theres a product called quickroof (yellow cover, kinda small) all it is is tar and aluminun but it works great and is the cheapest thing out there, but i think only home depot has it

Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
yeah i used somethign similar but it was to seal around the outside of window frames before you putthe siding on.. it was really jsut a thick rubber mat with really strong adhesive on it.. i accedently sealed my trunk shut on my maxima with it when i removed the rubber but left the adhesive on a hot day... it was bad but the stuff worked great when i had it on there.. 2 12" explodes and 2 1000 power acustic amps couldnt make the trunk rattle anymore

Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
I've heard that the stuff from home depot makes your truck smell like roofing tar once it sits out in the sun for a little while.
I'm personally going with the dynamat sound deadener.

Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
i didnt have any unwanted smells from the stuff i used but it only hame in rolls that where 6 inches across and i think 20 ft long.. so it was a bit of a apin to do my whole truck deck, sides and floor with but the sound quality rivalled that of dynamat for 1/8th of the price..

"TAC mat" it's a dense foam liner but dynamat bought them out and the craps expensive now.. i like dynamat but it's not my style..i like the thick foam stuff without an aluminum backing because it dosent reflect distortion or HI end noise... and both (including) the home depot stuff are great and hold up well in heat

Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
Whats everyone's opinion on gluing this stuff down ? My main concern is if water or moisture gets to it, you can't easily pull it out and dry it.

Re: whats the best sound dampining mat
Give this a read before buying any http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ Most of it is glued on one side and once its stuck down its hard to remove so i wouldn't worry about water. If you are worried about water a truck bed liner roll on or spray on will give you some sound deading but its water proof tho.

I have bought the Fatmat deal like OJOE, but have yet to install it. Waiting on warmer weather to finish painting my interior parts.

Re: whats the best sound dampening mat
ive used cheap stuff on ebay all the way to dynamat. the dynamat in my opinion stuck to what i was applying it to better. really all your trying to do is add weight to the panel that your applying it to. made my roof on my H2 very solid.
