Hard to install a big block?
I had an idea to put in a big block, like a 427 or 454. Is it hard to get one in? I have a 69 1/2 ton, SWB, stepside with a th-350. I know I would need another trans, but I am more worried about getting the engine in there. Also what about a 4-spd. Could I even get the clutch linkage around the engine. I know some of you guys have big blocks, so I was wondering if you could give some tips. Thanks

Not hard at all! I did this 2 winters ago to my 71 swb stepside (2wd). I also have a 4-speed hooked up to it........... getting that in place was a royal B*tch. to put the 4-speed in you are going to need a 4-speed X-member out of a BB 4-speed truck. They came with big blocks and 4 sppeds, big blocks and TH 400's, so all you need is the big block pieces.

I have the low hump cab, will that cause a problem? I need a new one anyway so I could get a high hump. Also, I wsa thinking more along the line of a Muncie 4-spd. Would that make a difference? Thanks

I don't know 4 speeds, but if it is out of a car, you will probably have shifter location problems.
As far as the high/low hump issue, you will need the high hump, esp with both a big block AND a 4 speed. If you decide to fix your cab, all you need to do is hack out the old one, and bolt in the high hump. (it's a bolt in piece with the high hump) ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. ive got a 454 backed by a th350 in mine, no major probs what so ever
had to move everything back 2'' column shifter linkage and trans x-member. i ended up getting the not 72 bb mounts so i had to drill new holes. w/ mechanical fan and a 4 core radiator i have about 1/2'' between em. had to notch the frame just a tad to get the long tube headman headers clear sufficiently. ------------------ Lutz, Fl My Team Website The Heavy Chevy Website ------------------

I put a 502 in my 71 just bought the towers and mts from the general and she droped right in and I have the stock TH350 know problems yet and it's going on 3 years now

you don't need the high hump cab with a car four speed, i have a 402 and a muncie in my 68. i used the big block motor mounts, and the bell housing mounts, that's all.
