OT - Garage Door Openers
Well, I managed to fry the motherboard on my garage door opener!! The light fixture was hanging by one screw, barely! The wires behind the light fixture managed to touch the metal innards, giving me a nice light show! Now it's dead as fried chicken, Grrrrr...
My question is, if I buy another door opener, will it bolt up to the door and track system that's already in place? I'm a first time garage owner, and know didly squat about openers, so I was curious! As luck would have it, the damn door is stuck in the UP position, so I manually wheeled it down, and put a chain through the rails! NICE, REAL NICE! It's an old LiftMaster Pro, chain drive Model # 1050-6C if it helps

I don't think you need to replace the whole thing. You should be able to just get a replacement motor and hook it up. I'm sure some one.
I didn't look a lot but here is their site. Maybe it will haelp http://www.liftmaster.com

Well I took a look at the circuit board (this time with the electricity off) and I burned a BIG piece of one of the traces off! I taped a nice solid piece of copper wire to the ends of the trace, and it works again!!!! Mickey Mouse I know, but I wanted to establish that this was the only problem, before I waste my time soldering. Thank god it's an old door opener, as all the traces on the circuit board are exposed, and about 1/4" wide!
Thanks for the link Palf, I was at the LiftMaster site earlier. Now all I have to do is get the UP/DOWN adjustment screws to respond correctly! LOL Right now it crashes into the cement, and then reverses to full open on me!

depends on what kind you have installed now. chamberlin makes most if the openers sold in the u.s. , sears openers are chamberlin. genie, and stanley are the other big names. go and get the same brand measure the rails and go from there. the only adjustments you must make on the new opener is up force and down force. you also must program the opener to the remote/ remotes, and install the motion sensors. it's not a big job for the mechanically inclined and should take no more than a few hours to install. most of the work is in installing the hangers which are already there, and running sensor wires. good luck

Found out why the UP/DOWN adjustment screws weren't doing anything....THEY WEREN'T HOOKED UP! All the gears inside had fallen out, and there was electrical cords dangling everywhere! I took the whole unit off the ceiling, and rebuilt it!! Greased up the wheels and metal joints, and fired it up....WORKS GREAT!!
